The City Council presents the III Sports Merit Awards to 42 local athletes who have participated in official competitions.

The Consistory has distributed in this edition a total of 20,500 euros to support their efforts and to contribute to their professional progress.

The Estepona City Council has delivered the Sports Merit Awards with which it recognizes the sportsmen and women registered in Estepona who successfully participated in any of the official competitions during 2023, in the different modalities recognized by the Superior Sports Council.

In this third edition, 20,500 euros have been distributed among a total of 42 athletes. The aim of these awards is to support local athletes, offering them more means so that they can continue to increase their technical level, contribute to the progression of sports performance and the consolidation of high-level sport and competition at regional, national and international level.

Three award categories have been established: Andalusian runner-up; Andalusian champion or Spanish runner-up (or higher: Europe, World or international competition); and Spanish champion or higher: Europe, World or international competition.

This rewards the efforts of these athletes to remain in the sporting elite and their contribution to the promotion of Estepona.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, says that for the City Council of Estepona “is a priority to continue promoting initiatives that bring the practice of sport to citizens, because it is the way to improve health and to transmit noble values such as companionship, effort or teamwork”.
