City Council commemorates World No Tobacco Day with a healthy walk through the city

The XII Walk ‘Unmask its appeal: The tactics of the industry with tobacco products and nicotine exposed’ took place today and has traveled through the pedestrian streets of the center to Calle Real. An information table and workshops on physical activity and music therapy took place in El Paseíllo.

Estepona Town Hall informs that today is celebrated World No Tobacco Day. On this occasion has been carried out by the old town of Estepona, the Healthy Walk ‘Unmask its appeal: The tactics of the industry with tobacco products and nicotine exposed’, organized by the Consistory, through the Outpatient Addiction Treatment Center belonging to the Delegation of Social Services, Elderly and Social Integration, along with the Health Centers Estepona West and La Lobilla, and the collaboration of Red Cross and Volunteer Platform of Estepona.

The aim of this activity is to raise awareness among all citizens, regardless of age, of the serious damage caused by smoking to health and offer advice and recommendations to adopt healthy lifestyle habits to achieve greater personal and social well-being.

Registration was free and participants have come with white T-shirt and cap, has begun at 9.30 am, and the meeting point was the Plaza Antonia Guerrero. This march for a healthy heart has traveled the streets Terraza, Manzanares, Santa Ana, Avda. de España, Paseo Marítimo, Mirador del Carmen, Paseo Marítimo, ending at Calle Real (El Paseíllo area), where workshops have been conducted Physical Activity and Music Therapy. At the same time, an information stand has been installed on smoking cessation, where all citizens who wish to do so can learn about the different methods to quit smoking and health promotion programs that are developed in the town.

One more year we propose the challenge, within the ‘Program for a million steps’, to reach this amount through the sum of the steps of all the people participating in this healthy route, which aims to promote the practice of daily physical activity and also strengthen the associative life of the municipality.

This initiative arises within the framework of collaboration between the City Council and the Health Centers of Estepona West and La Lobilla in order to “provide a joint and comprehensive response to the growing demand of the population in the treatment of smoking”. To this end, the Costa del Sol Health District and the City Council promoted the Local Network of Attention to Smoking, formed by the Health Centers of the locality and the Outpatient Treatment Center of Estepona, which is responsible for the treatment of addictions.

Addictions Outpatient Treatment Center of Estepona, whose actions include the development of activities to raise awareness and prevent smoking among the population. The units of this network have a multidisciplinary team made up of psychologists, nurses and doctors, who are part of the network of trainers of the Comprehensive Plan on Smoking in Andalusia.
