Estepona celebrates the Day of France and French-speaking culture with an extensive program of cultural and gastronomic activities.

The Alliance Française and the City Council organize this event that will bring together music, workshops, tastings and traditional activities such as petanque.
The Estepona City Council reports that the city will host for the second consecutive year the celebration of the Day of France and Francophone Culture. The Deputy Mayor of the Area of Extraradio, Begoña Ortiz, and the head of the delegation of the Alliance Française in Estepona, Florine Lafont, have presented the program of activities organized for this celebration, which will take place in Estepona from tomorrow, November 19, until December 2.
Ortiz explained that this initiative is part of the municipal project ‘Sharing Cultures’, which aims to promote the integration of the French-speaking community in the municipality, which already brings together more than 1,800 French-speaking residents. The mayor has pointed out that “Estepona is a multicultural place, and events like this help to strengthen ties between all neighbors, promoting understanding and respect”. In this sense, she stressed that the activities have been designed to offer citizens a vibrant sample of French, Belgian and Swiss culture and traditions, coinciding with the celebration of the emblematic ‘Beaujolais Nouveau’, a festival that celebrates every third Thursday of November the harvest of young red wine from the Beaujolais area, in the French region of Burgundy.
For her part, the head of the Alliance Française in Estepona, Florine Lafont, has detailed the program of activities and stressed the importance of bringing the French-speaking culture to the local population. “We are very excited to offer Estepona a little piece of the French-speaking world with activities representative of our culture. It is a unique opportunity to enjoy our gastronomy, cinema and music in a family friendly atmosphere,” he said.
The program will kick off on Wednesday, November 19 with the opening of an exhibition inspired by the work ‘A World Without End’, which offers a captivating vision of the meeting between Jean-Marc Jancovici and Christophe Blain, exploring their dialogue on energy and climate change. The exhibition can be visited at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center.
On November 20 and 21, at 7.30 p.m., the Mirador del Carmen Contemporary Culture Library will host the screening of the film ‘Les Choristes’. Those interested can make a reservation at f.lafont@afmalaga.e.
On Saturday, November 22, the traditional petanque competition will be held from 10:00 to 12:00, followed by an introductory course in this traditional sport from 12:00 to 13:00.
On the same day, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Chess Square will be transformed into a Grand Francophone Market, where visitors will be able to enjoy the most representative gastronomy such as crepes, cheeses, wines and the iconic Beaujolais Nouveau, as well as decoration, art and Christmas gifts stalls. The festive atmosphere will be accompanied by live musical performances:
13.00 – 14.30: Fine Tune Duet
15.00 – 16.30: Chet Le Boy
17.00 – 18.30: Yolanda Campos
On November 25, at 18.00, the Children’s Library of the Mirador del Carmen will host a storytelling for the little ones, by the French magazine ‘Esprit Sud’.
The celebration of the Day of France and Francophone Culture is a unique opportunity that offers the residents of Estepona the opportunity to discover, share and enjoy the richness of the French-speaking traditions in an inclusive and festive atmosphere.
