Estepona expands its public education offer with the new Conservatory of Music, which begins its course today

The center, located in the Mirador del Carmen, offers piano, guitar, saxophone and clarinet classes in this first year.

Estepona opens this Monday its Elementary Conservatory of Music with the start of classes for this course 2024/2025, according to the schedule established by the Junta de Andalucía for this type of education. The center, located in the Mirador del Carmen, has covered all the places offered for its first year.

The new educational facility in the city is located in part of the facilities of the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center, which have been ceded to the regional government by agreement. This first course there are a total of 48 students who can pursue their elementary music studies without leaving Estepona, so all the places offered for the first year have been covered. The students will be progressively joining their classes from today.

Specifically, the Autonomous Administration has authorized 15 places for piano, 12 for guitar, 12 for clarinet and 9 for saxophone. Once it is fully implemented, that is to say, once the students pass the courses up to the 4th year in the different specialties, the center will receive approximately 200 students. The 48 students of this first course have been admitted after the pertinent selective tests carried out by the Department of Educational Development.

The conservatory is located on the two lower floors, below the ground level of the current avenue, with a hall for musical auditions or conferences, theory classrooms, individual and group rehearsal rooms, and an exhibition hall on two levels.

The opening of an Elementary Conservatory of Music in Estepona is the result of the interest of the City Council to expand public education in the city and, mainly, the joint and coordinated work between the Consistory and the Department of Educational Development and Vocational Training of the Junta de Andalucía, which has made it possible for the municipality to have teachings that, although not mandatory, are essential for the integral development of society.

The opening of this Conservatory authorized by the Junta de Andalucía is a qualitative leap in the wide educational offer of Estepona, allowing new generations to enter into musical knowledge and train as future professionals.

The new center responds to a historical demand that existed in the city, since students who wanted to receive formal elementary musical training had to travel to other municipalities.
