Estepona joins the celebration of European Cardiovascular Risk Prevention Day
The aim of this initiative is to raise public awareness of the importance of adopting healthy habits against these diseases. To this end, the health centers will set up information tables from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm.
The City Council of Estepona informs that on Thursday March 14 is celebrated the European Day for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Risk. The aim of this initiative is to raise awareness among the general public about the importance of cardiovascular diseases and how we can influence the risk factors involved. To this end, the Estepona West Health Center and the La Lobilla Health Center will set up information tables on the promotion of healthy lifestyles and vascular risk prevention, which will be staffed by health personnel from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm.
These points will provide citizens with information and recommendations to help them improve their cardiovascular health. There are variables such as age and hereditary characteristics that cannot be modified, but it is possible to influence modifiable causes, such as leading a healthy lifestyle that includes physical exercise, a balanced diet, not smoking, moderating alcohol and avoiding being overweight.
In collaboration with the Estepona West Health Center, a workshop to promote healthy lifestyle habits will also be held at the Center of the Foundation for People with Functional Diversity of Estepona, Aprona.
With the same objective, the Lobilla Health Center will hold a workshop at 10.30 a.m., for users of the Center, and at 12.30 p.m., at the Center for Active Participation of the Elderly. In the afternoon, the workshop will be repeated at the Center of La Lobilla, for children between 6 and 8 years old.
The World Health Organization reminds that cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide and that these premature deaths could be avoided by following a healthy lifestyle that involves the reduction of risk factors.
According to experts, cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading cause of death in the Spanish population, ahead of cancer and respiratory diseases. Prevention is the best way to combat it, hence the interest of specialists in making citizens aware of why our arteries get sick and how to avoid this damage.
In relation to physical activity, the Deputy Mayor of the Sociocultural Area, Paula Herrera, recalled the municipal activities that the City Council offers in its sports facilities, and stressed the network of bio-healthy spaces that the municipality has.
She also stressed the importance of the fact that the municipality currently has a total of 26 defibrillators in public buildings and facilities which, if necessary, will allow the person with a heart attack or any other heart problem to be attended while waiting for the arrival of the emergency health services. In addition, the municipality has a total of seven mobile defibrillators, three in Local Police vehicles and four in Civil Protection vehicles.
To give more visibility to the European Day for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Risk, the City Council will illuminate various municipal buildings and facilities in red.
