Estepona organizes a free workshop on forest fire prevention open to the public

The environmental awareness day will be held next Thursday, February 5, at Mirador del Carmen
Estepona City Council informs that next Thursday, February 5, will be held at the Mirador del Carmen a free environmental awareness workshop to publicize the rights and duties of citizens in the prevention of forest fires.
This training activity, organized by the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment of the Andalusian Government and co-financed by the European Union, is open to all citizens in general and especially to residents of wildland-urban interface areas, owners of homes, plots and rural properties, as well as neighborhood associations and local groups.
The choice of Estepona as one of the target cities for these actions responds to a previous diagnosis that identifies it as a territory of high vulnerability to forest fires and other risks associated with climate change, such as heat waves and prolonged droughts.
Faced with this scenario of shared concern and global discussion, a program has been designed with the aim of reinforcing the preventive culture and citizen co-responsibility in the face of fire risk, with special attention to urban-forest and agroforestry interface areas.
During the day, which will take place from 16.00 to 19.00 hours, will address issues such as forest fires in Andalusia, the most common causes and local risk factors, the basic framework of citizen obligations (cleaning of plots, use of fire, self-protection), the rights of citizenship, participation, security and institutional support.
