Estepona will hold its first marathon in October 2026

The Mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, and the Athletics Club of the city have presented today this great sporting event, which will have an international character and will cover the most attractive areas of the municipality.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, announced today that the city will host the first marathon in its history on October 11, 2026. Accompanied by the board of the Estepona Athletics Club, the councilor has indicated that this great sporting event will be multitudinous and will have a strong international character.

The mayor explained that athletics has been consolidating in recent years as one of the sports that are generating more fans in the municipality. The construction of the Athletics Stadium, the possibilities offered by the coastal corridor as infrastructure for running enthusiasts or the celebration of events such as the Estepona Half Marathon, which has recently completed its fourth edition, are helping to make the city a benchmark for fans of this sport.

The mayor believes that Estepona is in optimal conditions to organize an event of this nature, so it has formed a working group so that in the coming days begin all preparations for this sporting event.

On the other hand, he stressed that, although it will still have to design the final route of the test, it will work for it to run through the main enclaves of the city, such as the coastal corridor, which in 2026 will have completely united the 23 kilometers of coastline, the old town, the environment of the Botanical Park-Orquidario, or the Avenida Spain, among others.

The president of the Athletics Club and the first Estepona athlete who participated in the Olympic Games (Atlanta 1996), Miguel de los Santos, said that for the Athletics Club is a great challenge and a huge illusion to have a marathon in Estepona. In this regard, he stressed that for years it has been an aspiration for runners in the area and said that now is the right time to meet this challenge.

Deyanira Rivera, vice-president of the entity, pointed out that the celebration of the marathon in Estepona will also get many young people in the city involved with everything related to the event and will encourage them to take this challenge as a healthy life challenge.

Likewise, José Juárez, member of the board, has advanced that the Estepona Athletics Club will offer training and sports sessions to those who sign up for the event, since running a marathon requires special advice due to the difficulties involved. He also noted that on October 11 will also be held the Half Marathon, which now has four editions.

Finally, the mayor of Estepona has expressed his satisfaction because the city will expand its wide range of sports with a test level and very interesting, which will contribute to the name of the municipality is even more linked to athletics.
