Estepona will host the IX World Ham Contest from August 8 to 15, with the communicator Eva Ruiz as godmother.
The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, and the businessman José María Téllez ‘Popi’ have presented the IX World Ham Contest ‘Popi Ciudad de Estepona’, to be held from 8 to 15 August in the town.
In this way, Estepona will once again become the world capital of the Iberian product with the celebration of this event, which has achieved the declaration of ‘Event of Tourist Interest of Andalusia’ and that brings together every year almost half a million people in the various activities planned.
During the event, the best national companies related to the production of ham and its derivatives will be present. In addition, free concerts will be held every night to liven up the event.
The mayor pointed out that Spanish gastronomy and our wide range of restaurants are values that bring us closer to the visitor; at the same time he praised the success that, year after year, this tourist activity has achieved, “which has become one of the most important events in the country dedicated to ham”.
This edition will have the communicator Eva Ruiz as godmother, who stressed that this event has become “a focal point in the country during its celebration, where the best ham is eaten, by the sea and with cultural activities”.
For his part, the promoter of the event, José María Téllez ‘Popi’, highlighted “the spectacle of seeing the entire seafront promenade of Estepona full of ham and its by-products”.
