Fifth public parking lot starts operating at a cost of 1 euro per day

The City Council adds 2,300 parking spaces to its municipal parking network with the incorporation of La Viña after the rescue of the concession.
The Estepona City Council informs that today August 1 has come into operation the fifth public parking at a cost of 1 euro during the day. This is the parking La Viña, until now in private hands by a municipal concession granted in 2005, which has become part of the network of public parking of the City Council after the rescue of the concession.
In this way, the Consistory adds a total of 2,300 parking spaces in which you can park at the low price of 1 euro during the day and 2 euros at night. In this way Estepona becomes one of the cities in the country where it is cheaper to leave the car in a closed and guarded parking.
In the case of La Viña, the decision of the government team to rescue the concession has led to a significant reduction in the cost of parking in this area, which until now was set at 2.40 euros per hour. From today you can park for only 1 euro during all daytime hours. In the event that the vehicle remains parked for 24 hours, the rate from today is 3 euros compared to the 17 euros it cost when it was in private hands.
The mayor, José María García Urbano, has recalled the interest of the City Council to explore the formula for the recovery, for general use, of the parking spaces that are part of the concessions signed with different companies through the legal mechanism of the rescue, provided that the company agrees. The objective is to continue providing the municipality with new parking spaces for vehicles, given the need arising from the significant population growth experienced by Estepona.
At the same time, the Consistory continues to work to expand the network of 2,300 parking spaces at 1 euro during the day. Thus, to the parking lots of La Viña, the Antonia Guerrero square, the Athletics Stadium, the Chess Square and the new Town Hall building will be added two new parking lots that are currently under construction and that will add more than 600 spaces. One of them, located in the surroundings of the Church of Carmen, which will have three subway floors, and another one in the Parque Central boulevard.
The Consistory also plans to build another parking area in the area of La Lobilla, for which the project is being drafted.
The municipal parking plan launched by the Estepona City Council has also opened a door to the employment of people with functional diversity who are responsible for the management of all these parking lots. So far, the agreement between the Consistory and the Aprona Association has enabled the formalization of up to 37 contracts. Of these, 33 correspond to men and women with some type of disability.
