Mayor supports ‘Bracelets of Hope’ initiative involving seven local soccer and basketball teams

The Spanish Association Against Cancer of Estepona has distributed today more than 1,500 green armbands for the players of the local teams to make visible the fight against this disease in the upcoming matches.
The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, today attended the presentation of the initiative ‘Bracelets of Hope’ of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) of Estepona.
The entity has distributed more than 1,500 green bracelets to seven local soccer and basketball teams for their players and coaching staff to wear them in the next matches they play. This will help to make the fight against this disease more visible, while showing support and affection for the patients and their families.
The councilor thanked all the teams that have decided to join this campaign that is being held on the occasion of World Cancer Day, which will take place this Wednesday, February 4. This initiative, which is being carried out nationally for the third consecutive year in numerous sports competitions, will be supported in Estepona by the following local teams: C.D Estepona Senior Football, C.D. Estepona Femenino, C.D Estepona Fútbol Base, A.D.C. Esteponense, C.D. Estepona Fútbol Base, A.D.C. Esteponense, C.D. Estepona Football. Esteponense, C.D. Colegio San José, C.D Cancelada and the Club de Amigos del Baloncesto (CAB) of Estepona.
García Urbano believes that initiatives like today’s help us to be even more aware of a reality that affects thousands of citizens every year in our country, and noted that the empathy of the various teams of Estepona are a clear example of solidarity that characterizes the city.
On the other hand, the president of the AECC of Estepona, Julia Crespo, explained that the green bracelet symbolizes the color of the association and the color of hope. “We want this bracelet to become a universal symbol against cancer, which accompanies, supports and humanizes this disease,” continued the head of the AECC. “The objective is to put the focus on the different needs that patients and families live with,” added Crespo.
Finally, the mayor of Estepona has encouraged all citizens to collaborate in the various projects promoted by the AECC, because “we are aware of the incredible comprehensive work they do with the users they treat”.
