Padre Manuel Cultural Center hosts the piano concert ‘El Flamenco de Albéniz’ by Chiclana-born musician Juan José Sevilla Valencia
The talented pianist from Chiclana will return to Estepona on February 23, at 8:30 p.m., with a monographic recital in which he will show references to flamenco in the piano music of the famous composer and pianist.
Estepona City Council informs that the Padre Manuel Cultural Center will host next Friday, February 23, from 20:30 pm, a solo piano concert by the young musician from Chiclana, Juan José Sevilla Valencia. El Flamenco de Albéniz’ is a monographic piano recital that aims to show a good part of the immense references to Flamenco that we find in the piano music of the famous Spanish composer and pianist Isaac Albéniz.
Albéniz’s compositions are often sound postcards to different corners of Spain that allude directly to the musical folklore of each region. This composer, born in Camprodón (Gerona), was inspired by Flamenco and the folklore present in the different parts of the Spanish geography, focusing especially on Andalusia, giving rise to a series of classical-flamenco mixtures impregnated with the soniquete of our land. We also know that many of his pieces were influenced by the Latin American folklore that arrived in Spain through Cadiz as a port of the Americas during the 19th century. As a sample of this we show some “cantes de ida y vuelta” such as Tango (tango-habanera) and El Puerto (zapateado flamenco).
In this concert, the performer will dedicate a few minutes, before each piece, to comment on some of the characteristics that link these works with the landscapes and music of Spain and Andalusia. In addition, an attempt will be made to clarify, in a historically documented manner, to what extent the flamenco references found in headlines such as “Tango” or “Malagueña” are faithful to the original flamenco palo or style. In short, it is a recital tribute to our music and our art, open to all audiences to enjoy the sounds that have surrounded us for centuries.
Tickets for the concert of this young “talent”, graduated with the best record of his class at the Conservatory of Music “Bonifacio Gil” in Badajoz, under the tutelage of pianist Angel Sanzo, are priced at 10 euros, and can be purchased at the box office of the Centro Cultural Padre Manuel from two hours before the start of the show, until full capacity.
