Those over 16 years old can obtain a sailing license and drive a boat of 6 meters and jet skis.
The Councillor for Sports, Luis Gil, said that water sports and water activities are deeply rooted in a coastal municipality such as Estepona. In this sense, he stressed that young people who are trained in sailing also have the opportunity to find work in this sector that continues to grow every day.
For his part, the manager of South Ole Sails, Jorge Villamizar, explained that students will learn the basic rules for safe sailing, and improve navigation skills and the ability to work as a team. The aim is to show young people everything the Mediterranean Sea has to offer, from enjoying a day of fishing to becoming a professional sailor. Likewise, they will learn to propel themselves with the wind, using all the instruments of the sailboats, learning to hoist the sails depending on the wind direction.
Regarding jet skis, they will learn the correct use and practice, in a safe way, and to ask for help by radio if necessary.
Regarding motor boats, the students will study the RIPA (International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions) – VHF radio – Safety equipment – Electronics (GPS) – First aid.
