The City Council allocates more than 250,000 euros to the improvement and maintenance of schools during the summer.

The Consistory is undertaking during the non-school period more than a hundred painting, locksmith, carpentry, plumbing, construction and gardening interventions in schools, kindergartens and adult centers.

The City Council of Estepona is carrying out during non-school days, coinciding with the summer vacations, more than a hundred improvement and maintenance actions in schools in the municipality. From the municipal delegation of Children and Education has been requested to the municipal brigades to carry out such interventions taking advantage of the absence of schoolchildren in the centers, which facilitates its faster execution without causing inconvenience, and following the list of needs submitted by the schools themselves. In addition to these tasks, the Consistory is carrying out other larger works, such as replacement of floors or walls.

This summer the City Council is going to make one of the largest investments in improvement and conservation of schools with a total investment of more than 250,000 euros. Among the most important works are the placement of a wooden baseboard on the stairs of the Infant School of CEIP García Lorca, the replacement of the safety floor in CEIP Santo Tomás, the placement of sheet metal with paint in the Gloria Fuertes Infant School, laminate flooring in two classrooms at CEIP María Espinosa, waterproofing of the roof of the gymnasium at the Ramón García school, the skirting board for the primary stairs at the El Carmen school, the installation of safety flooring in the entrance area of the Simón Fernández school, and in the playground at the Antonio Machado school. Safety flooring is also being installed in the entrance area of the Calancha Nursery School and laminate flooring in the blue classroom of the Cancelada Nursery School.

All this is accompanied by the specific work program of the Works and Maintenance brigade, which includes repairs, painting, masonry or plumbing, among many others. Thus, in the CEIP Sierra Bermeja and in the school García Lorca are being carried out tasks of painting classrooms and common areas, as well as ceilings.

At CEIP Santo Tomas de Aquino, in addition to painting, a small concrete slab will be built to place a cistern in the school garden, and a small perimeter wall to the balconies of the houses in the main courtyard. Also, a tree well without a tree will be concreted.

In the CEIP Simón Fernández the interior painting of the center (classrooms and corridors), the interior painting with repair of walls of the management office and library, the exterior of the main facade and the Clock Tower (bajeras), and the reform of the archive of the library area to transform it into the head of studies is carried out. While in the Valeriano Lopez will be painted inside the classrooms and specific classrooms and corridors of the main entrance.

In the CEIP Maria Espinosa various painting tasks have been scheduled, and will proceed to the construction of a rainwater grilles in the entrance area of infant, and a gutter in the playground rubber, in addition to the construction of a small ramp with screed plugs for access to the morning classroom.

In the Ramón García school, the painting of playgrounds, interior corridors, stairways and common areas and classrooms, as well as the installation of bleachers in the sports court, are contemplated.

Painting will also be carried out in the back playgrounds of the first cycle, the entrance area and main staircase, the gym area and the wall of the annexed playground at the Víctor de la Serna Primary School, where work will also be carried out to enclose the corridor on the second floor with a door.

At the Gloria Fuertes Nursery School, the central porch and perimeter walls will be painted in new colors, and the rock climbing wall area will be repainted. In addition, a metal structure with two sails (Paseo Marítimo) will be installed in the primary school playground.

As for the center Ramón Lago will paint the exterior facade of the dining room and the wall of the stands, while in school Isdabe del Mar will also proceed to painting tasks and will do the work of replacing the shower plate in the bathroom of the courtyard with the arrangement and review of the existing electric water heater and shower system. At the Nuestra Señora del Carmen school, in addition to painting, damages will be repaired on the wall of the exterior façade, bleachers and walls of the sports courts, and a shaded area will be installed with a metal structure with two sails in the primary school playground.

In the Antonio Machado school, a wall will be painted and demolished in the entrance area to the teachers’ room, the façade of the Infants’ playground will be refurbished to carry out the educational project of a mural in that area, cisterns will be installed in the garden of the olive trees, and a small partition wall will be installed to remove the gap between the pillar and the wall in the Infants’ playground. Improvements will also be made to the Adult Center, with the demolition of two partitions in the external control area on the second floor of the Padre Manuel Cultural Center.

Nursery schools

As for the nursery schools, the interior of the playgrounds of Los Pitufos will be painted; the exterior of the playground and main façade of Calancha; and the interior of classrooms, corridors and common areas in the Nursery School of Cancelada, where the structure of the porch in the playground and the exterior will also be painted.

At the El Nido school, all the ramps leading to the classrooms will be painted.

All these actions in the thirteen schools in Estepona will be complemented with a general review of electricity, plumbing, carpentry, locks and blinds in all schools. Likewise, all the gardening of the centers will be reviewed in the second half of August so that they are in perfect condition for the start of the school year.

The City Council is responsible for the maintenance of schools throughout the year, reaching over a thousand actions.
