The City Council and the Horizonte-Proyecto Hombre Association launch a new edition of the Family School to address the main issues affecting young people.

This free activity will be held at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, and consists of ten sessions to be held from November 11 to February 17.

The councilor attached to the delegation of Youth, Julia Simon, and the director of the Horizonte-Proyecto Hombre Marbella Association, Jaime Alvarez, today reported the start of a new edition of the activity ‘School of Families’, an initiative aimed at fathers, mothers, relatives and educators interested in addressing issues affecting young people.

The municipal responsible has recalled that this course celebrates the fourteenth call of this project, which has made it consolidate as a very useful tool for parents when dealing with the various problems that arise in the education of adolescents. “It is an activity that reaps an important success and that adds in each edition to more people interested in obtaining tools to help them manage the emotional education of their children and the risks of behaviors,” said the mayor.

This program is subsidized by the Ministry of Health and Consumption of the Junta de Andalucía, and as highlighted by the councilor is in continuous evolution driven by the needs and concerns proposed on more than one occasion the attendees themselves. Through these sessions are treated both classic problems that recur in this sector of the population, as well as other new risk situations that are created and are unknown to parents.

In addition, the municipal responsible has thanked the Horizonte-Proyecto Hombre association for its collaboration with the City Council to make it possible to carry out this initiative every year and has highlighted the efforts of the team of professionals who make up the association and who have been working since 1981 in the prevention and treatment of addictions and associated risk factors.

For his part, Jaime Alvarez explained that the program is divided into 10 educational sessions to be held weekly, between November 11 and February 17, at the Centro Cultural Padre Manuel, from 17.00 to 19.00 hours, and will address a wide variety of topics. They will be given by specialized personnel from the Horizonte Association -Proyecto Hombre.

Thus, the first session will be on November 11 and will focus on how we act in the face of problems and difficulties with our children; on November 18 the appointment will deal with how to reduce and control emotional tension; and on November 25 on how to manage family rules. The sessions will continue on December 2, with the theme of communication in the family; and on December 16, we will learn how to resolve conflicts.

The program will resume on January 20 with self-esteem and social skills, and will continue on January 27 with the talk ‘Educating in emotional intelligence. On February 3, the period of ‘Adolescence: guidelines for family action’ will be discussed, to continue on February 10 with ‘Healthy habits in the use of social networks and new technologies’. Finally, on February 17, the sessions will close with the topic ‘Getting informed about drugs and their effects on the body’.
