The City Council awards diplomas to the students of the second edition of the free ‘Gardening’ and ‘Electricity, Plumbing and Bricklaying’ workshops of 2024

The Councillor for Social Services, María Aguilar, has received in the Plenary Hall the 16 students who have completed their training in the second edition of this training program this year, and has welcomed the students of the third edition.

The Estepona City Council reports that the councilor attached to Social Services, Maria Aguilar, has delivered the diplomas to the 16 students who have participated in the second edition of 2024 of the free workshops of ‘Gardening’ and ‘Masonry, Plumbing and Electricity’, eight per course, offered by the Consistory to young people aged 16 to 24 years. It has also welcomed the 16 students of the third edition of the year of this training program.

The mayor has reported that this group has completed the training cycle that has been developed for three months, a period in which they have received 250 hours of training, both theoretical and practical. The latter have been carried out in the concessionary companies of the different municipal services, an initiative that was launched years ago and that allows students to make contact with the world of work and learn to solve the incidents and real situations that often arise in the performance of their profession. The students have also expanded their knowledge by doing internships at the headquarters of some local associations, always under the guidance of a professional.

In addition, the students who have participated in the Gardening workshop have been instructed in the application of phytosanitary products, an essential qualification for working in this profession. The learning process is completed with information and guidance for the search for employment and informative talks on drug prevention, occupational hazards and fires in the home, as well as recreational and sports activities.

The City Council offers three editions of these two workshops each year, which are aimed at minors who have not attended training courses and want to enter the labor market. Thus, the objective pursued through this training in each of these professions is to facilitate the social and labor insertion of the participants through their integration into a professional project. In this sense, it should be noted that after completing these courses, many students are able to enter the labor market.

The students who participate in these workshops are referred by the guidance counselors of the educational centers, by the parents of the students or by the interested parties. Registration is completely free and can be done throughout the year. Thus, young people from 16 to 24 years old can pick up their application at the municipal delegation of Social Services, Elderly and Social Integration, located in the Town Hall of Estepona.
