The City Council begins work to improve safety on two more rural roads

The Consistory begins to build two breakwater walls in Loma de Atanasio and Huerta del Padrón. The City Council intervened in the same way a few weeks ago in La Cala road.
The Estepona Town Hall informs that works have begun to reinforce and improve safety on the rural roads of Loma de Atanasio and Huerta del Padrón. In both roads some breakwater walls are being built, as it was done in the rural road of La Cala a few weeks ago.
These two roads are heavily trafficked by a large number of cars and heavy vehicles, so it was necessary and urgent this action to repair the existing retaining structures, and thus achieve the support of the road surface and prevent major landslides.
The wall where work is being carried out in Loma de Atanasio occupies an area of about 44 square meters, and the one in Huertas del Padrón covers 150 square meters.
These works are in addition to those already undertaken last October with the construction of a new breakwater wall on the road to La Cala. The previous one was very deteriorated because the concentration of the river in times of heavy storms caused the detachment of a part of the slope that supported the road, in particular, in the section that runs from the coastal avenue to when it overflies the AP7.
In addition to these works, works were also carried out to collect surface waters that flow down the road and run along it, to redirect them to a natural channel and avoid the problems that occur in that environment.
This plan that includes these three actions is funded in the extraordinary program of tourism sustainability 2021-2023 in its axis 1 sustainable green transition of the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Tourism in Estepona 2022-2024, funded by the Recovery Plan Transformation and Resilience, funded by the European Union-Next Generation EU.
