The City Council finalizes the bidding process for the construction of the Bulevar Parque Central, the culmination of the great urban transformation of Estepona.
Part of the project will be financed with a 5 million euro loan that will be fully repaid before the end of the current term of office, so it will not generate debt for future corporations.
The Estepona City Council is finalizing the bidding process for the Bulevar Parque Central project, an action that will be the culmination of the great urban transformation that the city has undergone in the last decade and which will involve the creation of a large public space in the heart of the town.
The work will merge the pedestrian boulevard to the Mediterranean that has become the old N340 road -generating one of the best promenades in the country- with the renovated historic center, known as the ‘Garden of the Costa del Sol’.
This project will make the public space of the central avenue San Lorenzo, of about 22,000 square meters, another urban reference of sustainability and quality tourism, advancing in the urban model developed in these twelve years and in the friendly city and quality of life in which Estepona has become. This model of urban development is an international benchmark and has been recognized by institutions and social agents for the benefits it brings to the future of societies.
Specifically, this new municipal project will be developed in San Lorenzo Avenue, in the axis between the new Town Hall, the promenade and the town center, contemplating its exterior redevelopment for the generation of another large pedestrian boulevard with leisure and commercial spaces; as well as the creation of a subway parking with capacity for more than 300 vehicles with the system of the municipal parking network of 1 euro per day cost for the user.
The City Council has also initiated the procedures for the arrangement of a loan of 5 million euros with which part of the works will be financed, as foreseen in the Municipal Budget for 2024. The operation is carried out in compliance with the principle of financial prudence and with the commitment of its full repayment before the end of the current term of office. In this way, the execution of this project will not generate debt to future corporations, as has been happening with all the works and infrastructures have been created in the city since June 2011.
This formula for financing part of the large Central Park Boulevard project allows the healthy municipal coffers to allocate the historic surplus of 30.25 million euros obtained in the liquidation of the 2023 budget to other city projects, further influencing the productive investment policies that are causing so much development in the city.
In particular, it is intended to enhance the works and maintenance of the suburbs and neighborhoods of Estepona, the improvement and maintenance of the city’s infrastructure, and the promotion of social housing. The objective set by the government team is to carry out in Estepona the largest productive investment plan in the history of the city thanks to the historic surplus achieved last year.
