The City Council initiates procedures to recover the land next to the emblematic El Cristo beach and create another public facility

This initiative continues with the development of a sustainable city model with quality of life, which is committed to enhancing the value of the coastal strip and favoring its integration into the urban core of the city, thus reinforcing the revitalization and the economic and social impact that this entails for the municipality.
The Estepona Town Hall has started the administrative procedures to obtain the existing land next to the emblematic and central beach of El Cristo to turn it into public equipment and carry out a project of municipal interest that will enhance the value of this privileged enclave by the sea.
To this end, the Consistory is processing the expropriation of this land, with the aim of recovering this land, which was sold by the City Council of Estepona in 1999, and thus provide the city with another outstanding space for the enjoyment of citizens. At a later stage, the City Council will specify the project to be executed, with the collaboration of citizens, although it is intended to create a recreational and leisure space, with green spaces and parking area.
In this way, the government team continues with the development of a model of sustainable city and quality of life, which is committed to enhance the value of the coastal strip and to promote its integration into the urban core of the city, strengthening the revitalization and the economic and social impact that this entails for the municipality.
Thus, it is important to highlight the great urban transformation and the wealth of heritage that the project developed on the land obtained by the City Council on the seafront, next to the port area, has meant for Estepona. With this municipal proposal was achieved the creation of a Balcony to the Mediterranean, with the pedestrianization of a large public space, which has generated one of the best promenades in the country, and the construction of the Mirador del Carmen, a unique vantage point converted into a reference for the arts and humanities.
Also included in this model is the project that the Estepona City Council has executed almost in its entirety and that has managed to unite the more than 20 kilometers of Estepona’s coastline by means of pedestrian paths that favor the enjoyment of these natural spaces and contribute to a more accessible and sustainable city.
