The City Council installs the last of the 17 bridges planned for the coastal corridor project

The new section that has been built will connect the Costalita and Benamara areas.

The Estepona City Council informs that today the last of the 17 large wooden bridges planned in the coastal corridor project has been installed.

Specifically, it has been placed in the section corresponding to the area of El Saladillo. This new strip of path will allow to join the existing one, to the west, in the urbanization Costalita, with the projected one, to the east, in Benamara, whose works are in phase of beginning of construction. This will provide a new step giving continuity to the pedestrian itinerary and increasing the accessible length of the walkway in the area.

The bridge has a free passage width of 3 meters, a total length of 20 meters and a central gauge of 2.80 meters. The sides of the bridge are covered with wooden panels painted in color as protective elements. As in the case of the previous structures placed along the coastal path, the wood will be treated with the manufacturer’s special paint and primed with insulating oil to ensure perfect maintenance given the special humidity characteristics of the environment.

The work on the El Saladillo section is located on a 440-meter-long beachfront.

The project includes, on the one hand, the execution of paving works, printed concrete pedestrian path with a width of 3 meters attached to the inner limit of the 6-meter strip of transit easement of the public maritime land domain, in accordance with the provisions of the General Urban Development Plan (PGOU) of Estepona and with the authorized uses in the transit and protection easement.

On the other hand, in the central area, the construction of a pedestrian path over a footbridge is planned by means of a new structural wooden bridge. This would be the last of the large bridges planned in the coastal corridor project, which would make a total of 17 structures of this type to cross the existing rivers and streams.

With this new section, a new longitudinal strip in transit easement and protection of the maritime-terrestrial public domain is recovered for public use, for pedestrians, bicycles and light vehicles, along the entire beachfront of the project.

The works have had a budget of 468,345 euros (VAT included) and a completion period of three months.

After the actions carried out in recent months, the City Council has already reached more than 21 kilometers of constructed coastal corridor, being already very close to reaching the end of this sustainable and high impact project for the city that has meant preserving the coastline putting it in value and enabling a new tourist attraction.
