The City Council opens to traffic a new crossing over the Guadalmansa river to connect Cancelada with several urbanizations in the outskirts.

This speed bump can be used by residents throughout most of the year, except during periods of heavy and long-lasting rainfall.
The Estepona Town Hall informs that it has opened to traffic a new ford over the Guadalmansa river that connects Cancelada with several urbanizations such as Las Joyas, La Resina and Selwo. The purpose of this infrastructure is to prevent the residents of these residential areas of the suburbs from having to make unnecessary exits to the highway when they have to travel by car to schools and shopping areas in this environment, as explained by the mayor, José María García Urbano.
The completed works have improved the functionality, accessibility and safety conditions of the rural road that existed between these urbanizations. The new speed bump crossing can be used during most of the year, since the Guadalmansa river only carries water sporadically during periods of intense and long-lasting rainfall.
The ford has been conditioned over an existing passage in the river bed that was once made with earthen paving and therefore often in a deteriorated state of conservation due to the erosion processes caused by the riverbed. The weakness of the current pavement and heavy rains were the cause of the deterioration of the pavement.
Now, 134 meters long and 6 meters wide have been paved with lightly reinforced concrete slabs on a compacted granular subbase. The work has included the earthworks necessary for the new roadbed on the bed of the riverbed and the opening of lateral platforms at mid-slope on the slopes of both banks, to connect the crossing with the existing roads on either side.
The work has been completed with the corresponding road signage, road markings and vertical signs, according to plans, for greater safety of user traffic. The vertical signage will define when it is possible to pass or not through this ford, with special attention to rainy periods, when it will be closed to traffic.
The works, carried out by the company Alpasa Obra Civil S.L. and which have involved an investment of 115,000 euros (VAT included), have been authorized by the Hydraulic Administration of the Andalusian Mediterranean Basin.
It is important to point out that the work will in no way reduce the drainage capacity of the existing public channel. The work adapts the gradient of the new paved road to the morphology of the existing natural channel, without altering the current hydraulic cross-section or introducing obstacles to the flow of the stream.
It should also be noted that the General Urban Development Plan (PGOU) of Estepona foresees a viaduct over the Guadalmansa River similar to the one built over the Taraje stream.
