The City Council organizes the XXXIX Night Chess Tournament ‘Ciudad de Estepona’ for amateurs

The competition will be held on Thursday, August 21 at the Paseo Marítimo and will have a maximum participation of 200 players of all ages.

The Estepona City Council, through the Municipal Sports Chess School, organizes the thirty-ninth edition of the night tournament of this sport, which will take place next Thursday, August 21 at the Paseo Marítimo. It is a regular activity of the summer program of the town, being the only competition for amateur participants of these characteristics that is celebrated in Spain.

The games of the XXXIX Chess Night Trophy ‘Ciudad de Estepona 2025’ for amateurs will be played from 20.00 to 24.00 hours, with a maximum participation of 200 players between 6 and 90 years old. Free registration at escueladeajedrez@estepona.es

The Nocturno de Ajedrez was born from the hand of the remembered monitor of the Municipal Chess School, Miguel Abril, being one of the most multitudinous tournaments for amateurs of all those organized in the country. During the last years, the event has gathered local participants and members of the Municipal School, as well as a good number of players from different parts of the Andalusian and national geography. The amateur nature of this event has made it a must for fans of this discipline.

A total of five separate tournaments will be played: mixed categories (by year of birth):

1st Tournament: Smurfs and U-8 categories: 10 minutes per player, Swiss to 5 rounds.

2nd Tournament: U10-12 categories: 10 minutes per player, Swiss 6 rounds.

3rd Tournament: U14-16 categories: 10 minutes per player, Swiss 6 rounds.

4th Senior Tournament: 10 minutes per player, Swiss 7 rounds.

5th Tournament: Senior Category: Quick Tournament, 15 minutes per player, Swiss to 5 rounds.

There will be trophies for the first three classified in each category and diplomas for all participants.
