The City Council reinforces the beach service with new machinery and activates the surveillance service with 45 lifeguards.

The City Council of Estepona has presented today the new beach machinery that will serve to maintain the coastline in optimal condition during the summer season. The councilor attached to the area of Beaches, Susana Aragon, explained that this machinery will serve to strengthen the cleaning and maintenance service of the 22 kilometers of coastline with which Estepona has.

In this way, the mayor has detailed that have been incorporated into the service 3 tractors, 2 buggies, a truck crane, a rastronivelador implement, a cleaner beach medium screening, a multilink trailer, 2 implements recogecañas, 1 generator, 3 blowers, 3 hydrocleaners and 5 brushcutters. Aragon has insisted that the maintenance of the beaches is one of the priorities of the government team. A job that, although reinforced during the summer months, is done throughout the year.

On the other hand, the municipal responsible has commented that it has already started the lifeguard service and surveillance on the beaches of the municipality, in particular, in La Rada, El Cristo, El Padrón, El Saladillo and Arroyo Vaquero, the busiest of the municipality. The new bathing season has new features, since the staff in charge of surveillance will premiere the new towers that have been installed throughout the coast. The device has a total of 45 lifeguards, an ambulance with technician and nurse and a rescue boat with skipper and a lifeguard.

The surveillance service will be provided until September 15, uninterrupted, for 8 hours a day, from 12.00 to 20.00 hours, from Monday to Sunday. This schedule may be changed, at the request of the City Council, at the beginning and end of the season, depending on the weather and daylight hours.

This summer the lifeguards have new surveillance turrets that replace the existing chairs until now. In total there are 17 new structures that have been distributed in La Rada, El Cristo, El Padrón, El Saladillo and Arroyo Vaquero, from Mexico Street to Arroyo Enmedio.

The towers are composed of a two-piece structure (base and hut). They have an access stairway to the upper area. The upper part has a decked area, which allows the authorized person to watch from any position. They also have a gate on each side with sliding methacrylate 5 millimeters thick so that on bad days you can perform the function of surveillance without any problem, in addition to ensuring the same in case of breakage.

The councilor attached to the delegation of Beaches, Susana Aragon, said that other features of the new turrets are its resistance to ultraviolet radiation, moisture, impact and aggression, in addition to not need maintenance or replacement. In this way, and thanks to its composition, it will guarantee its durability over time.

The lifeguard device on beaches includes the surveillance of bathing areas in order to attend any incident that occurs, search, rescue, rescue, evacuation of victims of the aquatic environment, in addition to informing citizens of possible risks arising from bathing, advise on the respective precautions of the same and report on the prohibitions contained in the Ordinance of Use and Enjoyment of the Beaches of Estepona.

To reinforce safety on the beaches, a Risk Assessment Plan is prepared for each beach and the corresponding operational plan throughout the bathing season. All this, in collaboration with the competent public order services.

Adapted showers

On the other hand, the mayor of beaches has recalled that the City Council has a toilet service adapted for people with reduced mobility. In this way in the sanitary modules are available from crutches to amphibious chairs to facilitate bathing for people who need it.

In addition, this year new showers have been installed on several beaches in the municipality that will facilitate bathing for people with reduced mobility. It is an adapted model that, although it is designed for general use, has a unique wing-shaped design that allows showering comfortably to users who use wheelchairs or amphibious chairs.

These showers have been located on the beaches where each year the City Council offers the assisted bathing service, that is, on the beach of Christ and on the beach of La Rada, at the height of the Monterroso River. “These are showers that will facilitate the bathing of these people, who can access them directly with their wheelchairs or amphibious chair, being much more comfortable and safe,” said the councilor attached to the delegation of Beaches, Susana Aragon.

This assisted bathing service, which is free, will be available until September 15 from 12.00 to 20.00 hours.
