The City Council rescues La Viña parking lot so that users pay one euro per day as of August 1

The mayor, José María García Urbano, today signed the agreement that involves expanding the municipal network of public parking at a cost of one euro per day.

The Estepona City Council expands its municipal network of public parking lots at a cost of one euro during the day with the incorporation of the La Viña parking lot which, since 2005 and through a concession granted by previous municipal governments, was in private hands. After reaching an agreement with the concessionaires for the rescue of the site, the Consistory will begin to manage these facilities from August 1. It will be on this date when the new rates, much more advantageous for the users than those existing until now, will start to be applied.

The mayor, José María García Urbano, today signed the agreement for the transfer of the facilities and the 174 parking spaces in the parking La Viña, located in the central street Melilla, become part of the municipal network from August 1. The measure will mean a significant reduction in the cost of parking in this area, which until now was set at 2.40 euros per hour. Thus, from this coming August it will be possible to park for only 1 euro during all daytime hours. If the vehicle remains parked for 24 hours, the rate will be 3 euros compared to the current 17 euros.

As explained by the councilor, in its commitment to continue providing the municipality with new parking spaces for vehicles, given the need arising from the significant population growth experienced by Estepona, the City Council has chosen to explore the formula of recovery, for general use, of the parking spaces that are part of the concessions signed with various companies through the legal mechanism of the rescue.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the Aprona Foundation, which supports people with functional diversity, will be responsible for managing the La Viña parking lot. In this regard, it should be noted that the municipal parking plan launched by the Estepona City Council, which already includes four enclosures under the formula of parking for one euro during the day, has provided the city with more than 2,000 places where you can leave the vehicle, but has also opened a door to the employment of people with functional diversity who are responsible for the management of all these parking lots. So far, the agreement between the Consistory and the Aprona Association has enabled the formalization of up to 37 contracts. Of these, 33 correspond to men and women with some type of disability.

The four public parking lots available in the city are located in the Antonia Guerrero square, in the Athletics Stadium, in the Chess Square and in the new Town Hall building. The Estepona City Council is working on the expansion of this network with two new parking lots that are currently under construction and that will add more than 600 parking spaces. One of them, located in the surroundings of the Iglesia del Carmen, which will have three subway floors, and another one in the Parque Central boulevard.

The Consistory also plans to build another parking area in the area of La Lobilla, for which the project is being drafted.

The policy of previous municipal authorities, based on the privatization of parking lots with high rates for residents, is now giving way to the model of the current government team with its own network of public parking lots where parking costs 1 euro during the day and 2 euros at night.
