The City Council schedules activities to commemorate the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’.

The official ceremony will take place on Friday, November 24, at 12:30 pm, in the Plaza Antonia Guerrero, with a tribute to women killed by gender violence, chaired by the mayor of Estepona, and the awards ceremony of the XXV Poster Contest ‘November 25’.

The City Council of Estepona reports on the program of events commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated every November 25.

The events will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, at 18:00 hours, in the Sala ‘Maria Zambrano’ of the Municipal Library, with the awards ceremony of the XXIV Contest of letters written by a woman, whose prizes have gone to Josefina Solano Maldonado, from Alhaurin el Grande, and Noelia Parodi Piñero, from Estepona. Throughout the week, the 18 letters submitted to the contest will be on display at the Library for reading.

The program of events will continue on Thursday 23, at 13:30 pm, at the Health Center La Lobilla, with the formative talk ‘The processes of rupture: psychological, emotional and behavioral effects on children’, by Ana Jesus Andrades, psychologist of the Municipal Women’s Information Center of Estepona, for the medical staff.

On Friday 24, at 12:30 pm, will take place in the Plaza Antonia Guerrero the official ceremony in which tribute will be paid to the victims of gender violence. The event will be chaired by the mayor, José María García Urbano. The deputy mayor of the Sociocultural Area, Paula Herrera, invites Estepona society to show their rejection of violence and show solidarity with the victims, keeping a minute’s silence after the speeches.

This will be followed by the reading of the commemorative manifesto. As every year, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women marks the beginning of the UN’s UNiTE campaign, which this year carries the slogan “There is no excuse”, and lasts until December 10, International Human Rights Day.

Finally, there will be the awards ceremony of the XXV Poster Contest ‘November 25’, a poster contest on violence against women in all its manifestations, in which secondary school students from the IES of Estepona participate.

On the other hand, the City Council has started this month, in the institutes of the town, the tenth edition of the Project ‘Observa’, aimed at students of 1st ESO, with the aim of training young people in equality and prevent gender violence.

The 25N anniversary is completed with the photographic exhibition ‘Photography as a means of expression and overcoming. Gender Violence: prevention and awareness’ made by students of the conceptual photography workshop taught by Gladys Farias in the municipal delegation of Women, which will remain at the Colegio Juan XXIII until the end of the year.

To give visibility to 25N, throughout the week there will be an allusive banner in the traffic circle on Avenida Juan Carlos I, in front of CEIP Ramón García, and public buildings and monuments will be illuminated in purple.
