The City Council will inaugurate this Saturday a square dedicated to guitarist Daniel Casares

The composer, Favorite Son of Estepona, will now give his name to a public space located next to Conejera Street.
The Estepona City Council will inaugurate this coming Saturday, April 5, a square dedicated to the guitarist and Favorite Son of the municipality Daniel Casares. It will be in a special event chaired by the mayor, José María García Urbano, and will be attended by the artist, family, friends and members of the Corporation. The new space named after the composer Esteponero is located next to the street Conejera.
The Consistory approved in plenary session in 2023 to recognize the career of Daniel Casares, one of the flamenco guitarists with greater international projection, giving him the title of Favorite Son that same year, and dedicating a public space within the municipality. It will be this coming Saturday, at 13.00 hours, when the square that will bear his name will be officially inaugurated. It is an area that has just undergone a comprehensive rehabilitation within the special plan of intervention in neighborhoods carried out by the City Council.
Born in Estepona, the flamenco guitarist and composer has the honor of having established himself, with his effort, his mastery and his art, as one of the great names of flamenco and Spanish guitar. The Estepona Town Hall has valued Casares’ close relationship with the town where he was born, having become one of its best ambassadors inside and outside Spain. With a professional career full of national and international successes, he has always shown the affection he has for his roots and his people, always carrying Estepona in his heart and making it more universal.
Daniel Casares’ inexhaustible capacity to face new challenges has led to acclaimed incursions into classical music and collaborations with prominent international artists. His artistic commitments lead him to tread the boards of world-renowned auditoriums every year, such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Centre in London, or the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York, among others.
A tireless student of flamenco, he has won awards such as the Musical Revelation Award from the Association of Show Business Critics (New York, 2005), the Miguel Acal National Flamenco Critics Award (2005) and the National Guitar Award ‘Bordón Minero’ (Murcia, 1997), among others.
Last summer he premiered in Estepona the project ‘La Movida Flamenca’, together with Javier Ojeda, also from Malaga, in an original cultural proposal that was a great success.
