The City Council will invite bids for the animal rescue and protection service to expand its coverage

The aim is to reinforce the assistance that is already being offered with a new contract to which 250,000 euros per year will be allocated. The Consistory maintains a collaboration agreement with a kennel to ensure zero culling, as stipulated by the national law passed in 2023.
The Estepona Town Hall is working on the necessary procedures to put out to tender the animal rescue and protection service with the aim of reinforcing the coverage that is already being offered.
The Estepona City Council is responsible for the removal and maintenance of animals that are in a state of abandonment due to the inaction of their owners. In fact, at present the kennel with which the Consistory maintains a collaboration agreement serves about 56 dogs that were recovered from the street and from homes where they were in a situation of neglect or abuse. This agreement, which is developed in compliance with the current regulations that guarantee zero slaughter, allows these animals to be sheltered.
With the tender for the service, which will be opened in the coming weeks, the aim is to provide greater coverage for the increase in the animal population, especially dogs and cats, guaranteeing their welfare and zero slaughter, and promoting awareness campaigns against abandonment and promoting responsible adoptions. For this purpose, an initial economic endowment of 250,000 euros per year has been set for this service.
The Estepona City Council has for years maintained actions aimed at achieving zero animal abandonment and slaughter in the municipality, which have intensified following the entry into force in 2023 of Law 7/2023, of March 28, Protection of the Rights and Welfare of Animals. In addition, the Consistory has been collaborating annually with entities in charge of animal care in the city.
