The City Council will recognize on Constitution Day a score of young people from Estepona with outstanding professional and intellectual careers.

The institutional act will name the international artist Juan Miguel Quiñones as Adopted Son of Estepona.
The City Council of Estepona will celebrate this Saturday the institutional act on the occasion of the Constitution Day, in which will be made the appointment of Adopted Son of Estepona to the international artist Juan Miguel Quiñones. In addition, special mentions will be awarded for their professional and intellectual career to 23 young people of the municipality; all of them, examples of dedication, dedication and success.
In the institutional act, which will take place at the Felipe VI Theater Auditorium at 12.30 p.m., the work and example represented by this large group of young people will be highlighted.
For his professional and musical career will be recognized Josema García Hormigo, a native of Estepona and student at the Conservatory of Music of Aragon, who has been awarded the First Prize in the category of Composition of the prestigious International Competition of Pianists, Composers and Conductors Sergei Rachmaninoff. The young composer has managed to stand out among candidates from many countries, thus confirming his promising trajectory within the contemporary symphonic creation.
Also receiving special mention is the intellectual career of Andrés García García, a young researcher and biologist from Estepona, who has led the scientific team that has achieved the creation of the first human bone marrow in the laboratory, a revolutionary breakthrough in biomedical research. This milestone, which opens up new possibilities for the study and treatment of various types of cancer, marks a before and after in the scientific field.
In the case of Andrés Montes García, a native of Estepona, he graduated with honors with a double degree in Economics and Business Administration and Management from the University of Malaga. He won several academic awards, including the ACSYMA Award and the Extraordinary Award for the best academic record. In his professional career, he has worked on key projects such as process automation at EY and company acquisitions at Relevian, with a focus on the education sector. Currently, he is part of the Investment Analysis Department at Ferrovial Airports and partner of the family business Huevos Montes. His academic and professional excellence make him a reference in his field.
Manuel Fernández Escabias, PhD in Biomedicine, graduated in Sciences of Physical Activity and Sport, is currently contracted FPU, awarded the Prize for the best Master’s Thesis of the Official College of Graduates in Physical Education (COLEF) and the Talent Award of the University Students of Granada, for initiation to research.
In the judicial field, honorable mentions will be given to María Esperanza Almagro Aragón, prosecutor. Born in Estepona. She studied at IES Monterroso. She later obtained a double degree in Law and Political Science at the University of Granada. Her vocation led her to prepare with great dedication and effort to overcome the oppositions and specific training as a prosecutor, practicing since last year 2024. Her trajectory is an example of commitment, preparation and vocation of public service in the service of justice.
The same goes to the prosecutor Maite Lazo Navas. Born in Estepona. She studied at the San José School and at the University of Malaga she graduated in Law. Her vocation and interest led her to prepare and pass the entrance exams to become a State Prosecutor, a career she has held since 2023. Her career is an example of perseverance and preparation, as well as conviction to always act in defense of legality and the public interest.
Another mention will go to the notary María Angélica Delgado Majada, a resident of Estepona. She studied at the Colegio Santo Tomás de Aquino and at the IES Monterroso. She graduated in Law at the University of Malaga. Her work, effort and passion for her career led her to become a notary, practicing with exemplarity since 2018. Her trajectory is an example of constancy and dedication to study, and of a vocation for public service and contribution to the collective welfare.
The City Council also recognizes the careers in the world of sports of several professionals:
Luis Javier Puentes Hernández, an athlete with an enviable track record, having twice run the six most important marathons in the world. In 2024, he became a finalist in the Seven Majors by completing the Sydney Marathon.
Natalia Fisher Egusquiza, current European runner-up in marathon cycling and Ibero-American champion in mountain biking, by resoundingly winning the Ruta de los Conquistadores 2025. In addition, she became the first European to conquer this route in its 32 editions.
Rafael Montero Contreras, who took his first steps in the Spanish junior championship, winning in 2020. Currently, he holds the titles of World Champion U-19, World Champion U-16 and Champion of Spain 2024 in the Senior category, the highest category in the discipline of Kitesurfing.
Paula Rodríguez García, Spanish indoor soccer champion with the Andalusian National Team, a title that has been revalidated for the second consecutive year in the Spanish Championship of Autonomous Selections.
Javier Florentino Alcaraz, Champion of Spain Infantil 2025 in Karate, in the fry category, also highlighting for his victory in the kata modality.
Juan José Durán Machuca, champion in the Spanish Sprint Triathlon Championship, where he was proclaimed first in his age group (20-24 years). He also won the title of
Andalusian Junior Triathlon Champion, closing a successful season both in Duathlon at Andalusian and national level.
Alicia Sánchez Navarro, Spanish Champion 2023 in the specialty of Tuli Combat ITF Taekwondo. Her victory is a testament to her dedication, effort and skill in a discipline that requires both physical and mental strength. This achievement places her among the best at the national level, standing out for her tenacity and discipline.
Agustín Siancha Borlenghi, Spanish Children’s Tennis Champion and U-16 Andalusian Champion in the 2025 Cadet category.
José Manuel Cotán Pérez, Champion of Spain 2023 in the category of children’s combat (8-9 years) and first classified in Tul Individual in Taekwon-Do ITF.
Rubén Salazar Galera, who has shown remarkable talent and dedication in his basketball career. Among his achievements include: Champion of Spain of Autonomic Selections Cadet Male, with the Andalusian Selection, achieving the third place (Bronze Medal); Champion of the Andalusian Championship of Clubs Cadet Male with the Unicaja team, reaching the first place (Gold Medal); or Runner-up in the Spanish Championship of Clubs Cadet Male, with the second place (Silver Medal).
Agustin Vargas Soto, Champion of Spain and Andalusia 2023 in Muay Thai in the category of 50 kg.
Alejandro Fernández Gil, who has been practicing Muay Thai for 9 years in the 71 kg category, being four times champion of Andalusia and achieving the title of Junior Champion of Spain 2025.
Marina Varo Mizokawa, Spanish Kendo Champion, noted for her technique, perseverance and competitive spirit. She has also been recognized for her excellent performances in national and international tournaments.
Ana Moncada Sánchez, who managed to get Spain a place for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in sailing. Junior world runner-up in 2019, she has reaped other excellent results in European and world championships.
Salvador Esquivel Gámez, starting goalkeeper for Atlético de Madrid B, has shown exceptional talent and dedication in his sporting career. His outstanding performance has led him to be a regular member of the first team, actively participating in 90% of the matches. In addition, his performance has consolidated him as the starting goalkeeper of the U-21 Spanish National Team, standing out especially in his last official performance.
Daniel Muñoz Navas. Native of Estepona. He has excelled as a defender in the youth academy of Atlético de Madrid since 2018, after training at the Municipal sports school of Estepona and Málaga CF. His honors include the U-19 European Championship in 2024 and participation in the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia 2023 with the Spanish National Team.
Quiñones, Adopted Son
Juan Miguel Quiñones, born in Vejer de la Frontera, grew up, trained and built his personal and professional life in Estepona, becoming a cultural reference in the city. His career has been highly praised by international art critics, who have defined his work as “a sensitive archeology of an era, a territory and a memory shared by those who have inhabited or passed through this landscape”. In recent years, his work has transcended borders, being exhibited in various galleries and art fairs in the United States, Europe and China.
Throughout his career, Juan Miguel Quiñones has created a wide range of works that are part of the artistic and cultural heritage of Estepona and other parts of Andalusia.
The City Council recognizes him as an Adopted Son “for his contribution to art, his professional career and his constant link to this land”.
