The City Council will recreate a posidonia seagrass meadow in the city’s Ethnographic Museum

This project, which will create an immersive room, aims to promote awareness of marine conservation on the coast of Estepona.

Estepona City Council has initiated the process for the implementation of an initiative to recreate a meadow of posidonias in the Ethnographic Museum of the city. To do this, it has opened the tender for the service contract for the creation of an immersive room, with screens and interactive resources, which will be located in the Sala del Mar of this exhibition space located in the Plaza de Toros.

The aim of this project is to promote awareness among visitors about the conservation of the marine environment on the coasts of Estepona. This area of the Mediterranean stands out for the richness of its seabed, with numerous endangered species, including those associated with posidonia meadows.

Specifically, the coasts of Estepona are home to one of the four populations of posidonia in the province of Malaga, whose conservation and recovery are essential for the fight against climate change in the Mediterranean.

The recreation of a posidonia meadow in the Ethnographic Museum will be a unique experience for visitors, who will thus approach the importance of its conservation for the maintenance of biodiversity in the Mediterranean. The project will be completed with the development of a series of panels and an audiovisual, explains the Councillor for Historical Heritage, Daniel García.

The contract currently out to tender includes consultancy services, software development, internet and support, computer equipment and material, audiovisual materials, communication and multimedia software development services, as well as programming. The successful bidder will be responsible for fitting out the room and providing all the computer equipment and software, as well as the recording of the images to be projected.

The base bidding budget is 53,000 euros (VAT included), which will be financed with funds from the Directorate General of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Blue Economy of the Junta de Andalucía granted to the City Council of Estepona. As for the execution period, it has been set at four months.

This initiative arises in the framework of the renewal of the contents of the Sea Room of the Ethnographic Museum of Estepona. This municipal facility shows and disseminates the ways of life, customs, economy and other aspects of life of the inhabitants of the region of Estepona in recent centuries. It has an important exhibition of more than 2,000 objects of ethnographic interest. The exhibition space of the museum is divided into thematic rooms: the Sala del Campo, where information and utensils related to farmhouses, beekeeping, sowing, harvesting, threshing, grain storage, livestock, the forge and the soda factory are grouped together. In the Seafaring Room there are handmade miniatures of different types of boats, fishing gear, an equipped skiff, rigging panels, or seafaring knots.
