The City Council will undertake the largest renovation of the Botanical Orchid Park since its opening.

The proposed intervention for this space, consolidated as one of the main tourist attractions of the municipality, includes new plantings, remodeling of pavement, painting, street furniture, pedestrian paths and new lighting.

The Estepona City Council is preparing what will be the biggest reform of the Botanical Orchid Park since its creation, which has just celebrated its 10th anniversary. The intervention, aimed at improving the image and services of one of the main tourist attractions of the municipality, includes from new tree endowment and botanical collection, to renovation of lighting, paving and street furniture.

The project with which the Consistory is already working, and which will serve as the basis for the next tender for the works, includes a long list of planned actions that will focus on the park. Among them, it highlights the replacement with new species of trees and botanical species. A strip of land in the southern part of the park, with a measured area of 2,300 square meters, will be repaired in its entirety. This action will be accompanied by the installation of signs at the request of each specimen, in order to provide visitors with more playful and scientific information about the collection housed in this public space.

The premise followed in this project, which will complement the periodic maintenance carried out by the City Council in this public space, is to maintain the current design of the park, but considerably improving its general condition. For this reason, the entire pavement will be completely replaced, maintaining the ecological, permeable and stable nature of the material to ensure improved pedestrian accessibility. Likewise, the urban furniture will be changed for another more in line with the new line that we want to give to the enclosure.

The deputy mayor of the area of External Control, Blas Ruzafa, explains that it is a “complete remodeling of the botanical park, where major interventions will be made for the development of this public space.

Improvements to the irrigation system and the waterproofing paint treatment of all the exterior walls of the Orchidarium building are contemplated, as well as the replacement of the glazed security panels located on the access stairs to the Orchidarium.

All this will be accompanied by actions to improve the lighting and lighting that will be carried out by the City Council in a parallel intervention for the replacement of all luminaires, ensuring a more efficient lighting with LED equipment and avoiding noise pollution. Scenic lighting will be installed for the botanical specimens.

All the aforementioned actions will lead to achieve a significant increase in its civic and security scope, improving accessibility, biodiversity and cultural of the Public Botanical Orchid Park of Estepona.

Inaugurated in March 2015, the Botanical Orchid Park has completed its first decade of life consolidated as one of the main tourist attractions of Estepona. With more than 3,000 species of plants, of which nearly 1,500 are orchids, this municipal facility has the largest collection in Spain and one of the most important in Europe.
