The IBI reduction approved by the City Council will result in savings of more than six million euros for Estepona households.

The Consistory has subsidized nearly 38,000 bills with an average reduction of 20%.
The Estepona City Council has initiated its plan to lower taxes announced by the mayor José María García Urbano, which will have its effect on the next IBI bill to be issued between August and September. About 38,000 households registered in the municipality will see a reduction in the amount they will have to pay this year.
As García Urbano advanced a few weeks ago, once all the debt inherited by the current local government inherited from previous governments, now resources can be allocated to implement the largest tax cut in the history of the city, which will materialize immediately in the receipt of the Real Estate Tax (IBI) this year, with an average reduction of 20%, although it will depend on the particular circumstances of each case.
This reduction, according to the data of the Municipal Intervention, has been applied to a total of 37,988 receipts of registered residents. The amount of the subsidy reaches 6.1 million euros.
With this measure, the IBI will reach in the city an accumulated drop since 2011 of 50% thanks to the initiatives carried out in these years. In addition, the alderman has advanced that the City Council will continue to study new reductions in the tax burden.
Another of the novelties that in fiscal matters will apply the City Council is the reduction of 3% in the garbage rate to citizens who make a minimum of three contributions of garbage in the clean point of the city. This is waste for which there are no special containers distributed on public roads, i.e. electrical and computer equipment, furniture, oils, light bulbs, X-rays, or clothing, among others.
It is important to note that this reduction in the receipt must be requested by the user to the Provincial Collection Board during the first quarter of 2026, by submitting an application, the receipt of the garbage fee for the previous year, and providing proof of each delivery that will be provided on each visit to the Punto Limpio.
The Estepona Town Hall has already been applying tax benefits in the garbage tax to neighbors in vulnerable situations, long-term unemployed and retired people.
