The new Municipal Budget, which maintains the largest tax cut in the city, enters into force

The Mayor, José María García Urbano, emphasizes that the 2026 municipal accounts are the first in the last 15 years in which there is no need to allocate funds for the payment of inherited debt.
The Estepona City Council reports that this January 1 came into force the new Municipal Budget, amounting to 132 million euros, which includes for the second consecutive year a significant reduction in the Real Estate Tax (IBI); specifically, an average of 20% less for households registered in the city. In this way, as already happened in 2025, also this year the receipt of IBI will be reduced.
The mayor, José María García Urbano, notes that the municipal budget for the year 2026 will go down in history as the first that does not have to deal with the debt inherited from the past after its complete liquidation, and this has allowed the consolidation for the second year of the application of the largest reduction in Real Estate Tax (IBI) made in the city. Thus, the budget contains an item of 6,624,365.11 euros, representing 5% of the total expenditure budget of the city to reduce the receipt to about 38,000 households.
The Consistory also faces the new financial year with solvency and a budget record for productive investments that reach 27,771,112.48 euros, which represents 20.93% of the total budget.
Among the major projects that are currently under execution and that are included in the 2026 Municipal Budget are the Bulevar Parque Central (9,985,648.24 euros), the completion of the subway parking at the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen (4,750,864.24), the VIII Plan de Asfaltado (1.000,000), cycling tracks and other sports facilities (4,040,000), the infrastructure plan in neighborhoods (2,493,804.30), city security camera installations (1,000,000), completion of the coastal path (300,000) or new public parks and children’s facilities (978,153.50), among others.
The alderman has pointed out that the commitment of this government team is that citizens continue to benefit from the elimination of the inherited debt of 304 million euros. “We understand that the money should be in the pocket of the neighbors to continue supporting and boosting the local economy, so we maintain in 2026 the largest tax cut in the history of Estepona,” said the first mayor.
