The Estepona City Council informs that the philosopher and pedagogue José Antonio Marina will present his book ‘La Vacuna contra la insensatez’ (The Vaccine against Folly) on June 12, at 8.00 pm. The event will be held at the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center and will be presented by journalist Francisco Reyero.
In this latest book, the author alerts us to the danger of misinformation and false beliefs and conspiracy theories that bias our judgment and make us vulnerable to political, economic and ideological manipulation. Marina offers in this book techniques to strengthen critical thinking to protect us against disinformation.
Born in Toledo, José Antonio Marina defines himself as a “philosopher on the street, private investigator, dancer in the world of ideas, seduced by creative intelligence, guide in the jungle of language, social critic, philosopher, writer, high school teacher, Ah! and a wonderful horticulturist”. Professor of philosophy, Doctor Honoris Causa by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, his research work has focused on the study of intelligence and especially the mechanisms of artistic creativity (especially in the area of language), scientific, technological and economic.
A contributor to the media and lecturer, his extensive work has received numerous awards, including the Humanist Thought Award 2023. Marina has managed to break the academic corsets and bring to the general public a different way of understanding life.
The presentation of the book will be next Thursday, June 12, in the concert hall of the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center at 20:00 hours and will be in charge of Francisco Reyero, a journalist with a long professional career in which he has worked for newspapers such as La Razón and collaborates as a commentator on current affairs in Espejo Público, Antena 3, Más de uno and La Brújula, Onda Cero and Canal Sur Radio and Television. He has published two books ‘Rafael de Paula: Dicen de ti’ (2005) and ‘Sinatra: Nunca volveré a ese maldito país’ (2015),
