The special plan to provide lighting to suburban areas adds thirteen more streets

The Consistory has put out to tender the installation of solar street lights on new roads and paths, improving safety conditions and focusing on energy efficiency and savings.
The Estepona City Council continues with its plan to improve the lighting in public spaces in the municipality. After the action that is being developed in points of the suburbs and the coastal corridor, with an investment of 1.7 million euros, the Consistory has put out to tender the installation of solar streetlights in thirteen other streets in the suburbs. The aim of this intervention program is to provide these spaces with lighting following the criteria of energy efficiency, so it has opted for solar streetlights with LED type luminaires.
The project includes the lighting of 13 streets, mostly in the outskirts of the city. Thus, the streets Rosalía de Castro, Vereda de los Frailes, Camomila, Menta, Aloe, Vial Velerín-Hospitén, Caserío, Tolox, Alquería, Quintana, Masía, urbanization Cortijo Casareño and Padre Luis García Cerezo will be provided with lighting.
With these street lights, which incorporate photovoltaic technology, energy demand will be considerably reduced and therefore electricity billing costs, and at the same time, visibility and safety for both pedestrians and vehicles will be reinforced. The installation of 247 streetlights is planned with a base bidding budget of 250,000 euros.
The Deputy Mayor for Services and External Control, Blas Ruzafa, pointed out that this action is part of an ambitious intervention program that aims to provide lighting to different areas of the city, so that energy efficiency is a priority, so it has opted for solar streetlights with LED type luminaires.
Public lighting represents an important fraction of the electricity consumption of public entities. Therefore, it is important to increase efficiency. The City Council has proposed the implementation of autonomous solar streetlights as a solution to the lighting of roads in the municipality that do not have this more efficient lighting system. With these luminaires, which incorporate photovoltaic technology, the energy demand will be considerably reduced and, therefore, the costs of electricity billing.
In parallel, the City Council is already working on other actions to be included in the lighting plan for this year and next year, which are currently under study.
