The Victims of Terrorism Association awards the Mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, the Cross of Dignity.

This distinction, which was presented today in the Senate, recognizes personalities who have ensured and continue to ensure a just, truthful and perpetual memory of terrorism.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, received today in the Senate the Cross of Dignity by the Association of Victims of Terrorism (AVT).

This group, chaired by Maite Araluce, recognizes every year with the Crosses of Dignity to personalities who have fought for the defense of the true story of terrorism in Spain “so that the memory inherited by future generations is fair, truthful and perpetual.

During the ceremony, the 12th AVT Award was also presented as part of the institutional act ‘For a just, truthful and perpetual memory of terrorism’. In this case, it was Mensajeros de la Paz, an association founded by Father Ángel, which received the ‘Truth, Memory, Dignity and Justice’ Award.

The organizers have stressed that the city of Estepona has always shown a special sensitivity to the victims of terrorism and the important work that the Association of Victims of Terrorism has been developing to preserve the memory of those who lost their lives in terrorist attacks. This has been done by the City Council in recent years by dedicating one of its streets to Irene Villa, a park to Miguel Angel Blanco, and placing a monolith in memory located in one of the most emblematic areas of the municipality as is the Avenida España.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, thanked the delivery of the Cross of Dignity and noted that “the recognition and demonstrations of affection for the victims of terrorism are not only a duty of gratitude but also a social commitment. A sign of respect and solidarity towards them and their families”.

In addition to the councilman, the AVT today presented the Cross of Dignity to the secretary general of the Popular Party, Cuca Gamarra, the president of the Assembly of Extremadura, Blanca Martín, the Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, Jorge Rodrigo Domínguez, the former prosecutor of the National Court, Juan Moral de la Rosa, the General Commissioner of Information of the National Police Corps, Eugenio Pereiro, the Lieutenant Colonel of the Guadalajara Civil Guard Command, Cristina Moreno, the journalist Ana Samboal and the president of the newspaper ‘El Debate’ and president of the San Pablo CEU University Foundation, Alfonso Bullón de Mendoza. The event, directed by the AVT Counselor, Miguel Folguera, was closed by the President of the Senate, Pedro Rollán.
