The winter cycle of the Cine-Club will begin with the screening of the film ‘Los que se quedan’ (Those Who Remain).

It will take place on Thursday, January 9, at 8:00 pm, at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center. Access is free until full capacity is reached

The Estepona City Council informs that the Cine-Club of the delegation of Culture will start the winter cycle with the screening of the American film ‘The Holdovers’, with Spanish title ‘Los que se quedan’ (2023). It will be on Thursday, January 9, at 20.00 pm, at the Centro Cultural Padre Manuel.

The film is directed by Alexander Payne, with script by David Hemingson. It stars Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Dominic Sessa, among others.

Synopsis: Nobody likes Professor Paul Hunham (Giamatti), neither his students, nor his classmates, nor the principal of the high school where he works. Everyone finds his pomposity and rigidity infuriating. With no family, and nowhere to go during the Christmas vacations of 1970, Paul stays at the school to supervise the students who have not been able to travel home.

After a few days, only one student is left there: a troubled 15-year-old named Angus, a good student whose bad behavior always threatens to get him expelled. Joining Paul and Angus is cook Mary (Randolph), an African-American woman who caters to privileged children and whose own son recently lost his life in Vietnam. These three very different castaways form an unlikely family for two very snowy weeks in New England.

The film, not recommended for children under 12, will be screened in the original version in English, subtitled in Spanish, with free admission until seating capacity is reached.
