The City Council proposes to acquire the city’s private parking lots to incorporate them into the municipal parking network for one euro per day.

The Consistory has submitted an acquisition proposal to the three companies that manage these parking lots on a rotation system.

The Estepona City Council reports that it has proposed to expand the municipal network of public parking lots of one euro a day with the addition of three private parking lots to this pioneering system that already has more than 2,000 spaces. The Consistory has submitted a proposal to the three concessionary companies, which are currently responsible for the management of these parking lots through a rotation system, to acquire these parking spaces that they offer to the city.

Specifically, this measure has been raised to the two private parking lots located on Avenida España (Zapallito and Inmecam) and the one located on Calle Melilla (La Viña). In the event that companies are interested, municipal technicians and concessionaires would develop an objective assessment taking into account the market price and the remaining concession period pending for each of them. In this regard, it should be recalled that the Zapallito and La Viña parking lots were completed in 2005, while the Inmecam opened to the public in 1997.

The Consistory is now considering recovering these parking lots for the municipal parking network at a cost of one euro per day to facilitate access to citizens. As is the case with the existing parking lots with this system, they would eventually be managed by a charity that promotes the integration of disadvantaged or vulnerable groups into the labor market.

The municipal parking plan launched by the Estepona City Council, which already includes four parking areas under the formula of parking for one euro during the day, has provided the city with more than 2,000 places where you can leave your car, but has also opened a door to the employment of people with functional diversity who are responsible for the management of all these parking lots. So far, the agreement between the Consistory and the Aprona Association has enabled the formalization of up to 37 contracts. Of these, 33 correspond to men and women with some type of disability.

The four public parking lots available in the city are located in the Antonia Guerrero square, in the Athletics Stadium, in the Chess Square and in the new Town Hall building.

The Estepona City Council is working on the expansion of this network of public parking at a cost of 1 euro per day with two new parking lots that are currently under construction. One of them, located in the surroundings of the Church of Carmen, which will have 322 parking spaces distributed in three subway floors. To these will be added the 300 contemplated in the new parking of the Central Park boulevard. These new parking spaces will be added to the 2,000 spaces already in existence.

The Consistory also plans to build another parking area in the La Lobilla zone, for which the project has already been contracted.
