The City Council and 76 hospitality establishments join in an initiative to increase glass recycling in the city.
The Consistory participates in Ecovidrio’s ‘Green Flags’ campaign to raise public awareness of the importance of recycling glass containers.
Estepona City Council reports that is participating in the campaign ‘Green Flags’ Ecovidrio, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of recycling glass containers, environmental protection and progress towards sustainable development.
Note that a total of 76 catering establishments in the town are also participating in this initiative, through which we want to respond to the high rates of consumption of glass containers that are recorded in coastal areas during the summer. Thus, during the summer months are consumed a third of the glass containers that are put into circulation and about 50% of the waste glass containers for single use that are put on the market are generated by the hospitality sector.
Thus, and with the cooperation of all sectors of the population, the Consistory is confident that during this summer season are improving data on glass recycling and that more and more people are aware of this need.
According to data provided by Ecovidrio, a non-profit organization responsible for managing the recycling of glass packaging waste in Spain, nationally, the fifth edition of this campaign has had the participation of more than 156 coastal municipalities in five different autonomous communities and more than 16,000 hospitality establishments. All these localities compete for the nine awards Ecovidiro delivered in the national territory.
