A dozen companies bid to build the new section of the coastal corridor that will run through the Matas Verdes area

The new pedestrian path will connect the surroundings of Playa Baños to Benamara
The Estepona coastal corridor project, which is already more than 95% complete, will soon add a new section in the eastern part of the municipality. This is the extension of the pedestrian path in the Playa Baños-Matas Verdes area. The work has aroused the interest of a dozen companies that have submitted proposals to the tender that has opened the City Council to hire its execution.
This new section will have 575 meters long wooden walkway and will allow the extension between the Avenida de la Playa, west, and the Marriott’s Playa Andaluza. In turn, it will connect with the coastal sectors of Punta de Baños-Casasasola and Saladillo beach. In the first of these, the pathway project is under study. In the area of El Saladillo, the works are in progress.
The new project has been put out to tender with a base price of 782,106 euros, VAT included, and an execution period of 5 months. The bids submitted improve these conditions, with lower prices and reduced completion times for the work, in most cases.
The Deputy Mayor for Development and Infrastructure, Ana Velasco, underlines the objective of this action, which is to give continuity to the coastal promenade currently planned and in the process of implementation on the coast of Estepona, and in compliance with the provisions of the general planning in force.
The actions planned for this extension of the coastal corridor have the authorization of the provincial delegation of the Department of Sustainability and Environment of the Andalusian Regional Government, which has reported favorably, also ensuring the protection of the entire environment.
As for the materials, wooden decking will be used on wooden structures, i.e., soft materials selected for their better adaptation to the natural environment. The promenade will be equipped with safety railings and lighting.
The Estepona Town Council continues to work on the initiative to create a great coastal corridor connecting the entire coastline, which is already 95% complete, with this new section, the momentum that has just been given to the work in the area of Benamara and the projects for the new sections to be conditioned in the areas of Bahía Dorada and Atalaya, which are under study.
