The exhibition hall of the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center hosts from today a new exhibition with an interesting journey through more than 60 years of Spanish realism through the works of the most important figurative artists of the artistic panorama of our country. Among them, an unpublished creation by painter and sculptor Antonio Lopez stands out and is being shown to the public for the first time.
‘Unveiling Reality’, which can be visited until July 20, presents 81 works including paintings, drawings and sculptures by renowned names in art: Esperanza Parada (1928-2011), Amalia Avia (1930-2011), Julio López (1930-2018), Francisco López (1932-2017), María Moreno (1933-2020), Carmen Laffón (1934-2021), Antonio López (1936), Isabel Quintanilla (1938-2017), Cristóbal Toral (1940) and José Hernández (1944-2013). The pieces come from institutions such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Fundación Ávila, Fundación Sorigué and Fundación Azcona, as well as from private collections or from the family of the artists themselves.
The mayor, José María García Urbano, and the curator of the exhibition, María Toral, have visited this exhibition organized by the Estepona City Council and which is configured as a tribute to the great Spanish realists with works ranging from 1956 to 2021. A tour that offers a very accurate perspective of the evolution that has occurred in the figurative painting of our country.
First time in Andalusia
The exhibition is a unique opportunity to see together, for the first time in Andalusia, some creators of undoubted artistic quality that have influenced so much in the current panorama of the Spanish plastic arts. Their commitment and determination to follow an artistic path marked by sincerity, rational rigor, a tireless search, pictorial sensitivity and a patient and methodical tactic of image construction, make these incomparable creations.
‘Desvelar la realidad’ also allows to know closely an unpublished work of the renowned painter and sculptor Antonio Lopez. ‘Fronts and profiles. César’ (2017. In process), oil, pencil and collage tracing paper on paper, is exhibited to the public for the first time.
The diversity and dynamism of this exhibition is completed thanks to the different genres addressed: the human figure, still lifes, interiors and landscapes mark the path that the viewer must follow to enter a journey in which all these painters and sculptors have their own personality, enjoy their own style and technique.
Each of them has managed to achieve a unique creative world, which distinguishes them from the others, although they are united by an affinity of spirit and a common language, that of figuration, fulfilling two requirements of the movement to which they belong: contemporaneity and truthfulness.
