Belgian pianist Ben Roels is one of the last musicians who had the honor of studying with the legendary Italian pianist Aldo Ciccolini. He obtained the Master Diploma at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and continued his education with Leon Fleischer (Master class Germany), Eliane Rodrigues (Belgium) and Lionel Bowman (South Africa). He then obtained the Diplome Supérieur de Piano at the Ecole Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris, where he studied with French pianist and famous Liszt interpreter, France Clidat. After his impressive concert at the Salle Cortot (Paris) he became a pupil of the legendary Italian pianist Aldo Ciccolini. After some time in Paris, he returned to the Royal Conservatory of Music in Antwerp, where he obtained the Master Diploma for piano with distinction.
He made his orchestral debut with great success with Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto and currently offers an extensive repertoire of concertos including Mozart, Van Beethoven, Liszt, De Greef, Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns, Shostakowitch or Gershwin. In recitals, he often performs works by “forgotten” composers such as Arthur De Greef (Belgian pianist/composer and pupil of Liszt). Ben Roels performed in Belgium (Flanders Festival, Brussels Fine Arts Center Palais des Beaux Arts Henry Le Boeuf Hall, Singel Antwerp), Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain, USA, South Africa. He performed in Turkey and was invited to give a master class at Ankara State University.
In China he made his debut with a successful concert tour with the program ‘The Master and His Pupil’, with works by Franz Liszt and his Belgian pupil Arthur De Greef, and has since returned to major Chinese concert halls. His CD Liszt Revisited and his latest CD ‘EMOTIONS’ were released by Senzanome in Brussels.
