The City Council exceeds one hundred actions with the Neighborhood Brigade in only four months

The works have been carried out in Blas Infante, Picasso, La Lobilla and Bello Horizonte with special attention to accessibility and the improvement of public spaces.

Estepona City Council reports the balance of the first four months of operation of the Brigade of Neighborhoods, a municipal service created to improve and strengthen the maintenance of residential and commercial areas of the city and has already executed more than a hundred actions in the first neighborhoods where it has begun operating: Blas Infante, Picasso, La Lobilla and Bello Horizonte.

The deputy mayor of the area of Services and External Control, Blas Ruzafa, recalled that this brigade, composed permanently by 10 masonry workers to which are added painting workers, locksmith electricity, plumbing and gardening, remains in each neighborhood to complete its tuning, allowing the development of a comprehensive plan of improvement tailored to the specific needs of each area. These works range from masonry, painting, road signs, electricity, plumbing and locksmithing, to gardening, paving, sidewalks and elimination of architectural barriers.

During the month of January, the actions are focusing on the neighborhoods of La Lobilla and Bello Horizonte, where accessibility improvements are being carried out in crosswalks and slopes, as well as widening of sidewalks, with the aim of facilitating mobility and improving pedestrian safety. As an example of these actions, in La Lobilla the widening of the sidewalk next to the sports pavilion is being carried out, improving pedestrian traffic in an area of high affluence.

Another of the most important actions in this neighborhood will be the comprehensive improvement of the Eduardo Flores park, where the pavement will be renewed, the playground will be updated and new landscaping with shade trees will be added. Also, the space will be equipped with new street furniture, a bio-healthy park and scenic lighting. As explained by Blas Ruzafa, “the idea is to create a real neighborhood square for the enjoyment of the neighbors, both adults and children, turning this space into a meeting and coexistence point”.

The actions of the Neighborhood Brigade are completed with painting, traffic and locksmith work, continuously addressing the daily needs of the neighborhoods. In this regard, the City Council highlights neighborhood participation as a key part of the program, since neighbors can suggest improvements and report incidents through the municipal Green Line service.

Through this system, accessible through the web www.lineaverdeestepona.com or through the mobile application available for Android and IOS, citizens can transfer those improvements they consider necessary in their neighborhoods, receiving a quick response and being able to track the status of their communications.

Commitment to accessibility

In terms of accessibility, Blas Ruzafa has highlighted, especially, the execution of more than 40 zebra crossings, one of the most repeated actions by the Brigade of Neighborhoods. In this regard, the mayor said that “these interventions are essential to facilitate the daily lives of people with reduced mobility, the elderly and those who use baby strollers, moving towards a more comfortable, safe and accessible city for all”.

The Neighborhood Brigade will continue to operate on a permanent basis in the municipality, moving through a rotation system for all neighborhoods of the city and the suburbs, with the aim that all areas of the city progressively benefit from this new municipal service. For next month, the operators will move to the area between La Lobilla and Los Reales Avenue.
