Writers Manuel Vilas and Mara Torres and the II edition of FLEST (Estepona Literary Festival), protagonists of the quarterly program of the Library of Contemporary Cultures.

The activities, which will include literary presentations, film screenings, concerts and the II Estepona Literary Festival (FLEST), will be free of charge until full capacity is reached upon registration at bbc@estepona.es.

The Library of Contemporary Cultures has become a reference space for the promotion of culture in the city.

The Estepona City Council has announced the cultural programming that the Library of Contemporary Cultures, located in the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center, will offer during the second quarter of 2025. Among the most prominent names are the writers Jorge Bustos, Manuel Vilas, Marta Fernández and Mara Torres.

The head of the Library of Contemporary Cultures, Alejandro Simón, explained that this center is more than a library as the aim is to make it a reference in the promotion of culture in the city, offering the public a place to develop creativity, where they can participate in outreach activities and where they can find the best cultural programming.

The program, which covers a wide range of activities, will begin on April 4 with the conference Enjaulados: un video juego para encender la imaginación (Caged: a video game to ignite the imagination) by José Alberto Simón and Virginia Brun.

On Wednesday, April 23, we will celebrate Book Day at the Reading Club with ‘El mejor libro del mundo’ (The best book in the world) by Manuel Vilas. Then, the poet and editor Ben Clark will give a literary workshop.

On Thursday, April 24, the writer Manuel Vilas, finalist of the Planeta Prize in 2019 and winner of the Nadal Prize in 2023 will present his book ‘El mejor libro del Mundo'(Editorial Destino).

The month of May kicks off with the celebration of Poetry Day in Estepona where the winner of the V International Poetry Prize ‘Ciudad de Estepona’ will be announced and the singer Martirio will offer a concert accompanied by the guitarist, Raúl Rodríguez.

On May 10 the journalist and writer, Marta Fernández, will present her book ‘La mentira. Historia de impostores y engañados’ (HarperCollins).

On May 14 it is the turn of cinema with the screening of the film ‘Verano del 85’ by director François Ozon.

On May 17 the Library of Contemporary Cultures will host the presentation of the books by Mara Torres ‘Recuérdame bailando’ (Planeta) and Jorge Bustos ‘La pena alegre. Crónicas sevillanas de Semana Santa (Editorial Renacimiento).

On May 20 Reading Club: El amigo (Anagrama), by Sigrid Núñez.

On May 24 it is the turn of the little ones with the children’s workshop: Andar por casa. Taught by the creators Elisa Ogalla and José Fernández. (Registration for this activity: juventud@estepona.es)

The month of June begins with the screening on June 11 of the film ‘Un año, una noche’ by Isaki Lacuesta.

On Friday, June 13, the pianist Juan Manuel Hidalgo will offer the concert ‘En la noche cerrada’.

The last Reading Club of the quarter will be held on June 18 with the book ‘Los guapos’ (Anagrama), by Esther García Llovet.

Finally, the programming of the second quarter will close on June 27, 28 and 29 with the celebration of the II edition of FLEST (Estepona Literary Festival), whose program will be presented soon.

The program of the Library of Contemporary Cultures is divided by trimesters and aims to cover activities of various artistic disciplines, highlighting art, music, literature and film, among other genres.

The Library of Contemporary Cultures, located on eight floors of the Mirador del Carmen, was inaugurated on November 21st with a program of events that included the participation of the filmmaker and former Minister of Culture, Ángeles González Sinde, the general director of the Botín Foundation, Íñigo Sáenz de Miera, the poets Antonio Lucas and Ben Clark, and the musician Alejandro Pelayo (Marlango). The event brought together nearly 600 people.

The first major event hosted by the library facilities was the Estepona Literary Festival (FLEST), which brought together some twenty big names in literature, music, gastronomy and artistic creation, and which was attended by more than 2,000 people.
