The Estepona City Council and the Consulate General of Colombia are promoting new avenues of collaboration to advance the cultural integration of the Colombian community

Estepona is home to a community of about 2,000 registered Colombian citizens
The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, and the mayor’s advisor, Andrea Ruoppolo, welcomed the Consul General of Colombia in Seville, Juan José Quintana Aranguren, to City Hall today for an official visit aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two institutions and promoting initiatives that foster the cultural integration of the Colombian community living in the municipality.
During the meeting, both parties discussed various issues of mutual interest and agreed on the importance of promoting joint initiatives to strengthen ties between the Colombian community and the city, encouraging their participation in the social, cultural, and community life of Estepona.
The councilman highlighted the significant contribution that Colombian citizens make to the municipality’s social development and emphasized diversity as one of the elements that enriches community life in the city. Currently, Estepona is home to a community of approximately 2,000 registered Colombian citizens, making it one of the largest foreign communities in the municipality.
For his part, the Consul General expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the City Council and expressed his willingness to continue strengthening institutional cooperation to facilitate services for Colombian citizens and promote activities that help keep their cultural roots alive while fostering their full integration into Estepona society. Among the most immediate actions to be carried out is the upcoming arrival of the Colombian Mobile Consulate in Estepona, with the aim of allowing Colombian citizens to complete administrative procedures without having to travel to Seville. The dates for this event have yet to be determined.
Following the institutional meeting, the diplomatic representative held a meeting with members of the Colombian community residing in Estepona, a forum for dialogue in which concerns, proposals, and possible areas of focus for the future were shared.
The official visit continued with a tour of Estepona’s historic district and the Orchid Garden, where the consul was able to explore some of the municipality’s main heritage, tourist, and cultural attractions.
