The City Council is expanding its cleaning services with new stationary pressure-washing units in neighborhoods and outlying areas

The addition of eight operators and four pressure washers—in addition to the six existing ones—as well as street-cleaning trucks, scrapers, and sweepers, will make it possible to increase the frequency of service, improve the response to incidents, and strengthen daily maintenance
The increase in machinery and staff will allow, for the first time, both neighborhoods and outlying areas to have a permanent pressure-washing team in each zone.
The Estepona City Council has approved an amendment to the cleaning service contract with the goal of strengthening street cleaning and improving service in all neighborhoods of the municipality through a new work organization based on permanent teams assigned to specific areas of the city.
The main change involves the addition of four new pressure washers, operated by a total of eight workers, who will join the staff and work on a permanent basis in different districts of Estepona. This distribution will allow for increased cleaning frequency, optimized response times, and a more agile response to the needs of each neighborhood, according to Blas Ruzafa, Deputy Mayor for Services and External Control.
The new teams will be distributed as follows: one will serve Blas Infante, Picasso, Avenida de Los Molinos, Bello Horizonte, and Sierra Estepona; a second will cover the northern section of Avenida Andalucía, from Avenida de Los Reales to the Parque Ferial y Deportivo; a third will operate in the western area of Juan Carlos I Avenue, from Nueva Estebbuna to Ortega y Gasset Street, including Seghers; and a fourth will serve the quadrant bounded by España, del Carmen, Puerta del Mar, and Juan Carlos I avenues.
In addition to this reorganization, five other high-pressure cleaning teams will continue to provide service in the old town, from Avenida Andalucía to the intersection with Avenida Juan Carlos I and the Paseo Marítimo.
This expansion of cleaning services will allow, for the first time, a permanent high-pressure cleaning team to be assigned to Cancelada, Nueva Atalaya, Isdabe, and other outlying areas.
These units will also be supported by three street-washing trucks, two scrapers, and two sweepers, specifically to address the main avenues and larger open spaces.
Under this new organizational model, the teams will be permanently stationed in their assigned areas, which will allow for a better understanding of each environment and more efficient planning of cleaning tasks. In addition to street cleaning, these workers will remove weeds and report any issues detected on public roads to expedite their resolution, as Blas Ruzafa emphasized.
The investment allocated for the purchase of the new machinery amounts to 180,000 euros, in addition to the personnel and maintenance costs required to launch the enhanced service.
During July and August, the City Council will also intensify the street-washing service using water tankers, which will operate throughout the day—primarily in the morning and with additional support in the afternoon—to accommodate the increase in visitors and the higher volume of people in the municipality’s busiest areas.
The street-cleaning crews will draw water in their respective service areas exclusively from the municipal water supply network, in accordance with current health regulations to prevent risks such as Legionella.
With this expansion of the service, the City Council continues to strengthen the resources allocated to the maintenance and upkeep of public spaces with the goal of providing a cleaner, better-maintained, and more pleasant city for residents and visitors alike.
