La Casa de Las Tejerinas will host from next week the new collection of sculptures by the Estepona artist Toby Govan

The opening of the exhibition “Eternal Sensations” will take place next Friday, September 2, at 8:30 pm, with a musical performance by the García Fajer Foundation, and can be visited until September 1, with extended hours, from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm.

Estepona City Council reports that the central courtyard of the Casa de Las Tejerinas, located in the Plaza de las Flores, will host from August 2 to September 1 an exhibition of sculptures by the artist from Estepona, of Scottish origin, Toby Govan.

The new sculptural collection of this artist, author of five monumental works in the Villa, is entitled “Eternal Sensations”, consists of seven pieces, and its presentation will take place twice: the first, next Friday, August 2, at 20:30 pm, and the second, on August 16 at the same time, with the musical interpretation of the García Fajer Foundation, and wines courtesy of ‘Take a Wine’.

The sculpture exhibition can be visited until September 1 from Tuesday to Saturday, from 09:00 to 23:00 hours, and Sundays, from 20:00 to 23:00 hours, with free access.

Toby Govan was born in April 1967 in Edinburgh (Scotland) from where, although it is a beautiful city, his parents decided to emigrate to the “light” of Andalusia (Spain). From the age of six he was fully integrated into Spanish society.

He studied at the School of Arts in Granada. He also studied photography in Madrid, working as a photographer for a while. But his real teacher was his father, the late Douglas Govan, a well-known sculptor, who showed him his technique and the magic of “reading stone”. His mother, Ann Govan, a spectacular watercolorist, taught him to see the world as a “composition.”

Over a period of six years he was sponsored by Sam Benady (Sammer Gallery, Puerto Banus, Spain) and Sandra Billington (SB Interiors, Marbella, Spain). This allowed him to flourish as an artist.

There are sculptures by Toby Govan in Spain, Germany, France, UK, USA and many other countries around the world.

In Estepona he has five monumental works in the street to be touched by passers-by: “La elefanta requetebién” (Plaza Rocio Bazán), “En tus brazos” (Plaza Paco de Lucía), “El Ascenso” (Estadio Municipal de Atletismo), “El abrazo a la cultura” (Centro Cultural Padre Manuel), and “Dragón al sol” (Parque El Calvario).

He has participated in many group exhibitions to highlight the various editions of Caprichos of the Diputación de Málaga. His last individual exhibition was entitled ‘Naturaleza Viva’ (Living Nature), and each sculpture was accompanied by a poem written and recited by the poet Lorena Jiménez, which could be heard when touching the work.
