The competition, which has become an international benchmark, will be held from September 14 to 22 with the participation of half a thousand players from 51 countries.
The Estepona City Council has presented the eleventh edition of the ITF International Junior Tournament Costa del Sol, which will be played from 14 to 22 September 2024 on the courts of the Bel-Air Estepona Tennis and Padel Club.
Luis Miguel Gil Amores, Councillor for Sports, stressed that the sporting event will feature more than 500 players from over 50 countries, although only the best 32 participants, both male and female, and the next 32 in the preliminary round of the tournament will be able to access the final table of the competition.
The ITF Junior Costa del Sol, which was held last 2022 for the first time in Estepona, manages to attract numerous participants due to the fact that the Costa del Sol, and more specifically Estepona, has an ideal climate for playing tennis, added to the existing facilities and the excellent organization of the event. This tournament is part of a world circuit (ITF Junior Circuit) consisting of nearly 2,000 matches spread over five continents.
The Director of Sports of the Provincial Council of Malaga, Javier Diaz, stressed the “commitment” of the City Council of Estepona with the sport “not only with the support to these events, but also with the construction of new infrastructure in a firm commitment to instill the values of sport to the youngest, very much in line with what we have been doing in the council.
For his part, Raul Rivet, president of the Costa del Sol Tennis Club, in charge of organizing the event, wanted to highlight some examples of players who have participated in previous years, as is the case of Roberto Bautista Agut, who has come to figure in the ranking of the top 20 tennis players in the world and won this tournament in 2005 and number 12 ATP ranking; Alejandro Manzanera, semifinalist in 2022, who won Wimbledon junior doubles; Miguel Perez, winner in 2020, who went to the Spanish Junior National Team in 2021; or Martin Landaluce, finalist in 2020, and who is currently number 1 in the ITF Junior ranking.
