The Transfusion, Tissue and Cell Center of Malaga will carry out its blood and plasma donation campaign in Estepona on August 2, 3 and 4, with the collaboration of the Estepona Town Hall and the Frente Bolillón Association.
Under the slogan ‘In summer, donate blood, spread happiness’, the Centro Sociocultural Padre Manuel will be open morning and afternoon to receive donations.
The blood collection, organized by the Transfusion Center, will be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to encourage the participation of donors for the summer vacations.
The Consistory and the association Frente Bolillón encourage people to donate blood during these days to help cover the blood needs in the hospitals of the Community.
To this end, the Padre Manuel Cultural Center of the Estepona Town Hall will open its doors from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 21:00 hours to receive the solidarity and generosity of the population.
This event will help to ensure the supply of blood components in hospitals during the summer season.
The director of the Transfusion, Tissue and Cell Center, Dr. Gracia M. García, emphasizes that in a campaign like this, citizens can, by giving a few minutes of their time to carry out this activity, help to improve the lives of many people.
The regularity of donations “is vital because blood is a living tissue that cannot be conserved indefinitely”, since “its components are stored for a certain period of time and have an expiration date”. The maximum time for the use of platelets is five days.
The director of the Transfusion Center indicates that “this type of action is fundamental to stimulate the incorporation of new donors, whatever their condition, although it is particularly relevant in the case of young people once they reach the age of majority”.
Donations make it possible for SAS professionals to attend every day in the different health centers of the Region to patients who need a transplant, require surgery or suffer from oncological pathologies, among others. “Donation is a simple, voluntary and painless act that helps to save lives”, so they are invited to all citizens and, therefore, they are
all citizens, especially those who have never done it before, are invited to donate blood.
After a blood donation, three different products can be obtained: red blood cells, platelets and plasma, which can help a similar number of patients. All blood groups are equally important, and it is essential to maintain a diversity of components. Some blood types are rare to find in our environment, and it is easier in donors from different geographical origins.
Older persons over 50 kilos
The requirements to be able to donate are to be between 18 and 65 years of age and weigh 50 kilograms or more, not suffer from anemia and be in good health. However, each donor undergoes a simple and quick medical examination before donating blood.
