Maximum participation in the III Half Marathon Senda Litoral Estepona ‘Trofeo Ikos Andalusia’.

The competition took place yesterday, Sunday, reaching the limit of 700 runners from different parts of Spain and other countries.

The Estepona City Council reports that the runners Pablo Salcedo, from Trops-Cueva de Nerja, and Noelia Valenzuela, from Unicaja Jaén, with a time of 1:09:23 and 1:25:50, respectively, have been proclaimed absolute winners of the III Half Marathon Senda Litoral Estepona ‘Trofeo Ikos Andalusia’.

The second places, in both male and female categories, went to Luis Carlos López, from Club Atletismo Estepona, with a time of 01:12:57, and Kim Baglietto, from Lourdians AC, with 01:25:50. The third places went to José Antonio Urbaneja, from Atletismo Cártama Trail, with 01:15:50, and Sonia Oncala, with 01:27:20.

Regarding the local classification, the winners were Josemi Jiménez, from Club Atletismo Estepona, with a time of 01:16:30, and Irene Alcalide, who completed the course in 01:30:24.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, who gave the start to the runners and attended the awards ceremony, highlighted the great atmosphere that was experienced in the city along the route and the successful participation of the competition, as it brought together the maximum quota of 700 athletes, who came from different parts of Spain and other countries, a hundred more than in the second edition.

The race started in Cancelada and covered a total of 21.097 kilometers. The first five kilometers through urbanizations of this urban center to reach the first refreshment station (km 5) where the route began along the coastal corridor to reach the promenade and fishing port of Estepona, make a circuit through the town center, to the Fair and Sports Park and reach the finish line at the Athletics Stadium.

The mayor has highlighted the challenge posed by this test for participants due to the difficulty of the different floors that make up the route, as they had to cross concrete surfaces, compacted earth, walkways and wooden bridges.

Also, García Urbano has valued the organizational level of the test, which offered at all times a safe route, which was shared between pedestrians and runners. For all this he wanted to thank the work carried out by the Club Atletismo Estepona and the various municipal delegations that have participated in the organization, as well as sponsors and 200 volunteers who helped to make this III Half Marathon, most of them secondary school students from local schools, became a success.

The circuit was controlled at all times by members of the various security forces, Civil Protection, volunteers, and the Estepona Athletics Club. In addition, there were checkpoints along the route with the presence of judges from the Andalusian Athletics Federation.

During the awards ceremony, the mayor awarded a plaque of recognition to Valeriano Alarcón Ramos, local athlete of the Estepona Athletics Club, for completing, with this test, 100 Half Marathons.
