More than 4,000 vehicles use the northern ring road every day, completed with the expansion works
The action carried out by the City Council has improved traffic flow in the area thanks to the extension of Santiago Street, which now has two-way traffic, more than 400 square meters of green areas and twenty new parking spaces.
The northern ring road of Estepona registers an average of 4,000 vehicles per day after the extension works carried out by the City Council to extend Santiago de Compostela street and its connection with Camino Vereda de Los Frailes. With the works executed and the opening to traffic of the whole area, at the beginning of this month of February, it has been possible to improve the flow of vehicles on this important access road to the city.
The mayor, José María García Urbano, has visited the area to see how the expansion of the round has managed to improve traffic flow thanks to the new road that has been generated in this enclave and runs parallel to the water supply tank Hidralia. It has an approximate surface of 100 meters long, it is enabled for the double direction of circulation of vehicles and has vegetation, electricity network and street lighting.
The works, which have had an execution budget of 213,071 Euros (VAT included) have also contemplated the conditioning and enhancement of two green areas that occupy an area of more than 430 square meters, and the creation of about twenty parking lots. The pedestrian walkway next to the water tank, which connects Camino Vereda de los Frailes with Vigo street, has also been reconditioned.
The northern ring road around the city was inaugurated at the beginning of 2020, being one of the most important projects of the municipality in recent years. Its implementation involved the construction of nine roads, totaling more than 42,000 square meters of surface area and more than 1.6 kilometers in length.
This has made it possible to connect the Trade Fair, Sports and Leisure Park, the Felipe VI Auditorium and the new Athletics Stadium with the northern part of Juan Benítez, linking up to the easternmost part of the urban center. All this has contributed to the fact that, with this new ring road, circulation and mobility in the city have been improved, creating a new ring road in the northern part of the municipality, which is an alternative to the existing one on Avenida Andalucía.
