More than half a million people visit the 8th ‘Popi’ Ciudad de Estepona World Ham Festival
This gastronomic event, which has established itself as one of the most important in the province during the summer season, has counted in this edition with more than 200 ham cutters and more than 60 exhibitors.
The Estepona City Council reports that more than half a million people have attended the 8th World Ham Contest ‘Popi’ City of Estepona, which ended last night after its inauguration last August 8.
The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, stressed that this gastronomic event has established itself as one of the most important in the province during the summer season for the quality of Iberian products offered, the level of professionals involved and the free concerts that enliven every night.
The touristic repercussion of this event in its successive editions has motivated that the Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía has declared it of Tourist Interest of Andalucía.
The regional administration has also valued the originality of the Certamen Mundial de Jamón, since there are no similar events declared of Tourist Interest in Andalusia. This gastronomic event is an important promotion of the profession of ham cutter, and at the same time, a large number of Iberian pork products that are marketed under different designations of origin existing in the national territory are made known.
More than 200 ham cutters participated in this edition, offering their products in more than 60 exhibitors located on the remodeled promenade.
The World Ham Contest ‘Ciudad de Estepona’ is organized jointly by the ham cutter José María Téllez ‘Popi’ and the City of Estepona, with the institutional support of the Provincial Council of Malaga and the Junta de Andalucía.
This edition has been sponsored by the presenter of Canal Sur TV Eva Ruiz and has been enlivened by musical performances by Joana Jimenez, Nayeli, La Guardia, Compás Flamenco, Decai, Jesús de Manuel, José el Francés, Gloria Bendita, Son del Puerto, El Maki and María Artés.
